    Sony KDL-32L4000

Hello everyone! First off hello and glad to be here!

Now for my question. I happened upon this board and search a many topics regarding mirroring, moving images and/or vertical lines on Sony LCD HDTVs. I came into a malfunctioning panel and have done some basic troubleshooting based on the searches that I have found in regards to T-Cons and Panels tabs. My testing what in conclusive after tearing the panel down and pressing on the tabs individually and with even amounts of pressure. I at which point tried letting the panel run for a couple of hours to see if it would warm up and expand thus making contact. Still the same issue. So at which point i moved to the T-Con. I had read that I should reseat all connections to the T-Con and see of that fixes it. Same result. At which point I noted also people are saying to "jiggle" the LVDS connector at the base of the T-Con to see if it might be bad. I wasn't really to sure what i was looking for at this point to be honest so i cannot say here if it was a success or not.

I am only speculating that these are the issues, but I have a video of the issue and images of all the boards. I am wondering what my next steps should be. Checking the voltages on the power supply / regulators? Could this potentially be a video processor issue and has nothing to do with the above items?

    Anyways, without further delays...

Sorry for the upside down display but it was the only way that i could still access the tabs while troubleshooting...

Thanks for your input and advice!

In my opinion your only option is to replace the tcon board and "hope" it corrects the video. I had a 32L4000 with a bad panel. I ordered a tcon board from shop jimmy and it didn't fix it. Luckily i was able to mail it back and atleast recoupe my money. I do still have the boards for your tv. You're welcome to try the tcon board but i wouldn't have high hopes. Although the video you uploaded shows your tv acting differently than what mine did. It didn't flicker like yours.

The tcon board is the exact same board as yours (2362D) partial part number on the sticker.
And the panel my tv had was a Samsung LTY320AB01

Below is a picture of the bad display on my 32L4000

Btw....Very nice photos. What camera did you use?

It looks like the SMALL BLUE ROUND INDUCTOR got hot on the T-CON board, that is part of the switching power supply.
Good pictures indeed. What do you use for the lighting?

In the T-Con picture the LVDS cable is not seated correctly, was this just when you were messing with it?

          Re: Sony KDL-32L4000

@kevinm34232 Yeah, the LVDS is off because I had just moved it back to the upright position. Its not loose or anything, funny thing is I noticed that right after I took the picture.

@budm I was not sure if that was the color it should be, but how can you tell it got to hot? Would that cause voltage dips or spikes when it warms up?

@Mr Bill I was looking into replacing the TCon, although I a big cheap skate and am willing to try anything to save a buck. I may look into this option later though. Thanks for the heads-up that it might not fix it...

UPDATE: So last night before heading to bed I decided to let the TV sit outside in the car port cover with plastic. I wanted to see if it got cold, how it would affect the unit (in the 40's F). When I came the out the unit in the morning and turn it on, IT WORKED. So i let it run for a minute and behold it failed and kept doing its thing. So I did not have an freezer spray on hand so i borrowed a can of compressed air from work. Start to freeze the edge of the tv panel. Low and behold the upper right hand corner seems to be the spot. Its not next to any of the tabs either. Pressure does not seem to help, but perhaps I am going about apply to little pressure.

What is everyone else experience in this matter? Am I pretty much hosed? if you have done the pressure trick, just how much pressure did you apply and over how much surface space?

          Thanks again everyone!

          ***EDIT***
I forgot to note that I am using a Canon Rebel T3i with just overheard florescent lighting an no flash. The original images are gigantic, something like 5400x3500 or something. :P

It looks brown in that area, or it can be due to light reflection.
There are ICs on the flexible board between the LCD panel and the solid circuits board. Those ICs runs real hot, the frame is used as heat sink.

Notes: do not run the panel too long with the metal frame removed!

              Re: Sony KDL-32L4000

@budm so the thermal tape works much like a heatsink to draw away heat, yes? Where did you get the tape and does it come in varying thickness? How much pressure has to be applied to the tabs? Like really cranking it down or just enough to make decent contact?

One thing that i just noticed is that where I have to spray the compressed air is VERY specific. Its actually on the side of the upper right. I have box the area in the image to show where. Also it seem to correlate with the line on the screen that appears when it is flickering. I have tried apply specific pressure to this area, just afraid that I might crack the panel or something.

See post 7. The pad is used to hold tab bonding in place and also for better heat transfer of the IC to the frame.

                  Re: Sony KDL-32L4000

I have a similar issue and hope this helps anyone else who has an issue.

I HAVE YET TO FIX THIS ISSUE.

I have had the luxury of having two identical TV's and have replaced every component and tried many combinations of boards from each one to see what happens. I have also added the heat sync pads to the circuits on the flexible ribbon cable and have used a freezer can on the long board between the T-CON and the LCD. (Sorry i do not know what everything is called.) There are no changes to the issue so I am assuming the problem is somewhere on the board permanently attached to the LCD display not related to overheating.

Below is a video of what my issue looks like, hopefully that shows enough. Also i have attached two images of a couple of surface mount capacitors I cant tell are broken or not.

                    Re: Sony KDL-32L4000

Try spraying the freeze spray on the actual LCD itself. I found that it was a bonding issues on the LCD panel that I had. upper right hand corner to be exact.
