LG 37LC2D crackling noise at startup

    Hello,

TV is from 2005/2006 (don't remember exact year). It turns on fine (standby light blinks red as normal then solid green).

As soon as a picture comes up, it makes a loud awful crackling sound for a few seconds. The sound seems to be coming from the speakers (but muting while the sound is happening doesn't make the sound go away). Sometimes the sound will be dead but I still have picture. Turning on and off will usually get the sound back (and usually no crackle this second time of turning it off/on).
Sometimes, a few seconds after the crackling, the sound comes up no problem.

No symptoms of any kind after this initial power up other than a slightly louder than usual buzz/hum (which has been there for a while).

It's only during a power on when the sound can happen. I haven't taken it apart yet as it still works for the most part. Could anyone point me in the right direction or have any ideas what to look for if the TV does end up failing?

    Thanks.

First, I think anyone here would suggest that you actually take it apart and provide pictures because no one can tell you exactly what is wrong until you do that. However, this series of LG's have a terrible history of bad capacitors in the power supply. What you have described is very common for what they do before they finally fail. So, unless and until you are willing to take the back off there isn't much anyone here can do to help you. Once you do take it apart, I would suspect you'll find a failing power supply which is an easy fix. On this set, it's best to replace all of the caps, not just the ones that are visibly bulging or leaking. If you search these forums you'll find posts where several of us have fixed this set and even listed what caps you need to buy.

Looks like I posted hastily before searching more in depth. Found a link to a thread with similar symptoms:

I'll follow some of the advice in the thread when I get a chance and post back here.

I am not a techie. This forum has been informative. I will need to contact a techie in Perth and determine if replacing capacitors on the motherboard will alleviate the crackling noise and bottom third pixelation on the screen.

HP 8470p - distorted sound and noise when playing audio
            by televizora
            Hello.
I have an issue with HP 8470p - rather strange one.
I have a noise and sound distortions on both internal speakers and external speakers, when I plug such into the 3.5mm audio jack.
Seems like the noise is present especially when I play audio, where there are parts/sections where the volume of the actual recorded sound is low.
Interestingly, when I play the windows sound test, everything seems to be almost okay. The sound/distortions are similar to when you have interference from some other piece of equipment nearby or when you have an audio receiver with bad amplifier...

what i went through dealing with my mobo with dead onboard sound!
            by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

Nintendo switch - clicking/crackling sound when pwr on
            by Woxx
Hey there, maybe someone can shine some light here.

I have a Nintendo Switch that doesn't power on. When I press and hold the power button I hear a crackling, fast ticking electric-like sound. Does anyone have a idea of what it could be?

I have disconnected everything that I can. Done some measurements, reading 17,2 Ohm as lowest on the CPU caps.

I would highly appreciate your thoughts.

Tele-master AS-20 amplifier. No output sound, just noise
            by Francesc V.
            Hi:

I bought this amplifier from the 70s to try to repair it. So far it has no output sound, just noise. You can volume it up and down.

I've checked fuses and all are ok.
            I've continued with capacitors:
            • The main black one should have 4700uF, but it has lost half of its capacity during these years.
            • The ones that I've numbered have still a really low ESR and the full capacity after ¿40 years?

The 4 transitors are perfect. Desoldered and tested individually.
There are also components which I don't know exactly what they are....
