    Samsung LE26R88BD - Picture breakup

I've got a Samsung LE26R88BD that appears to be dying.

I get the following wonderful scrambled colours on screen after turning the tv on after it's been on standby for several hours (ie over night or while I have been out at work):

After ~30 seconds the picture will show as normal and it is fine if I put it into standby and back on after that. It's as if it is 'warming up' and the problem is only apparent after a 'cold boot'.

I wanted an excuse to get a new 32" but I was planning to pass on this tv in the family. If this problem can be fixed without costing the earth then I will get it repaired. If it's not worth the money then I will still pass it on but only for as long as it lives.

These LCDs have a lot of issues with bad capacitors and can cause symptoms like this. The problem is cheap enough to fix.

      Evening Tom66

I posted the same thread on another forum a few months back (not as specialist as this place appears to be) and got answer matching yours.

I did open up the back of the TV an hour ago (didn't take a photo) and took a good look at the capacitors on the PSU and I couldn't see any noticeable bulges.

As I have no soldering skills at all (and nobody I know that does) I managed to find a new PSU BN44-00191A online for £25 including delivery.

I have enough skill to safely swap over the board so hopefully this will do the trick. If not then I've not lost a great deal (and I have an excuse to get a new TV ).

It would have been possible to diagnose the fault before you swap boards at random. With no obviously bulged caps, I'd immediately test the output voltages, then consider the main board at fault instead, if the voltages are OK.

I have no electronic tools to test for voltages etc.

I am simply a screw driver monkey. The same place I ordered the PSU from did list mainboards but I couldn't find anywhere with stock.

Digital multimeters are available starting from £5 at Maplin Electronics.

If I were to get a multimeter I could do the checks (I've never checked for voltages with a multimeter) before un-packing the PSU and return the PSU under the distance selling reg's.

If the PSU checks out then is it easy to prove the mainboard to be at fault?

**Checked Maplin and they have two multimeters >£10. A Domestic one for £8.99 and a UT-132A Digital Multimeter with Square Wave Generator for £9.99**

Huh, they've put their prices up. The Domestic meter is all you need, but the Uni-T meter is made better and will last longer.

If the PSU is providing all of the voltages correctly it is OK, and it is most likely the main board at fault.

This is my last question/s for tonight (need my beauty sleep ).

As I have never used a multimeter, where on the PSU would I check the voltages and where would I find the correct voltages to compare against?

                  Thanks for your help Tom66.

Once you show me a picture of your board I can indicate where to make the required tests.

                      Morning Tom66,

The attached photo is the exactly the same board within my TV but not a photo of my own board (it is identical from my observation + model code when I opened the TV yesterday).

I will probably get a photo of the board in my TV later today.

We would need to test voltages on that black connector.

Sorry, I am going to honest and say that I don't know for sure what black connector you are referring to. I'm presuming the large black battery sized object in the centre left. Testing between the metal pins joining it back to the board?

I've no real technical knowledge of capacitors etc. so sorry if I seem to be asking stupid questions.

Bottom right - with the multiple pins - but wait till you get a picture of your TV first.

                              Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                              - sound and backlight, but no picture
                              - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                              - it keeps rebooting
                              - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                              - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                              - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                              - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                              Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
                              ...

                              Hello all,

This is my first post, but long term lurker on the form learning as much as possible about these TV's. I was given this TV as due to a power outage of constant On/off of power to TV. The TV originally would just click on and off (Typical Reboot Cycle). I opened the back of the TV, and troubleshooted by taking the 96 pin LVDS off one at a time to see if I had a picture on either side. I finally fixed the reboot cycle by finding the error on the left side of the screen off connector CN 1301, and the TV would stay on. Further troubleshooting led me to the driver boards where...
