Cracked plasma screen can damage the buffer board

I was about to sell this part I pulled from a 42" Samsung with a cracked screen. The cracked screen shorted electrodes damaged the Y-buffer. So sometimes the Y-buffer can be damaged when the screen gets cracked.

Also an example of why a fast continuity range on a multimeter is a must-have!

So it's possible a cracked screen can cause a buffer to fail which on some plasmas could cause y sus board to die , so we could have a sort of knock on effect.

I have not encountered a buffer killing a Y-sustain. I have encountered a Y-sustain killing a buffer though. The buffer ICs have a fairly high resistance which will be relatively harmless to the Y-sustain should something fail in the IC; only if all of the ICs were failed would I consider it possible.

52" will be an LCD. No one makes a 52" plasma. I'd consider a 52" LCD, but I'd really prefer a plasma.

I'll wait for the summer holidays before I consider picking up one for the dorm - not really enough space here to store it...
