    Samsung le23r88bd (r)

    Hi,

    I have a SAMSUNG LE23R88BD (R) TV.

The unit powers on but the display is black. No back-light or picture.

I have disassembled the unit but can see no signs of bloated capacitors.

just wondering what my next steps should be?

    Replace inverter?

    Thanks

    Berts

See if you can get sound from an external source.

      Hi, thanks for replying.

I have tried an external audio source to the TV and have no output, however the standby light comes on and flashes with the remote control, so I would assume power is getting there somewhere.

      Any more thoughts?

Have you tried pressing the SOURCE button to change input?

I have noticed a whining sound from the power board.

It starts low and increases, last about 3 seconds then repeats over and over.

              Any ideas?

Sounds possibly like an MCU starting up and failing? Does the power board show any signs of having the caps replaced - are they Samwhas or other?

Seem to be working blind here - can you post some pictures?

please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Hey, thanks for helping. Photos are attached, The large Cap on the power board looks a bit swollen, but I don't know if that is what they normally look like?

Also the Blue rectangular component on the power board has slight burn marks on the back, looks like it may have been repaired?

I have drawn a white arrow on the power board to the components that look suspect to me. Thanks again for any help.

Sometimes the Big Cap plastic lid looks a bit rounded if that is what you mean? we could tell better with a side view. The blue box is a capacitor but dont often fail.
On the inverter board - pic 5 there are 3 fuses (at least) can you check them using ohms 20 on your meter post results like Inv Bd F1 x ohms and so on.

Have you checked the red fuse on the power supply

Hi would it be too much trouble to ask you to point out the location of the fuses you suggest that I should test? thanks and sorry to be a pain, am quite new to TV's

Tcon attached- there may be more cant see for flash and item in dots
not sure what that is but just test for continuity.

Red fuse on main board is a red rectangular fuse below the label that says
                                5WO.39(ohms)j

                                hint:
Suggest you type in fuse ( Or whatever component) to google and select images - you will get to see every fuse imaginable. Capacitors are good too from pinhead to the ones on overhead powerlines.

Hi, all the fuses are good. The more I look into this the more I believe that it is a bad Cap on the power board. I have read another thread and a guy with exactly the same problem replaced the big blue cap and had success this would also concur with the heat damage to the board which is on one of the legs of that Cap.

My problem is now I am in the UK and the only place I can see where to get a similar Cap is here
                                    http://www.digikey.co.uk/scripts/DKS...16859614659808
Its not the exact one but I am told it should work.
The postage from America is £12 and I was wondering if anyone knew of a place in the Uk selling the same component?

Thanks again Selldoor for all your help, hopefully this works.
