    Problem with Panasonic TH-50PZ85U

Hi, I have a Panasonic TH-50PZ85U. i have only owned this TV for about 3-4 years. This is the second peice of crap TV that has quit on me within less than 5 years. Is that all we're getting out of these $1000-$2000 TV's now?

Anyhow, i was hoping someone could give me a little insight. I turned the TV on today and shortly after, it just quit. It's split right down the center with the left half black, and the right half distorted to the point where not much of anything can be recognized. It isn't acknowledging any kind of input at all.

I did come across the service manual for it which will be a huge help, but i really don't know where to start. I guess the power supply would be a good place. I can't get it to go into service mode at all. When i tried holding the volume button then pressing the Menu button it did go into the rest mode, but came up with "Checksum:C5" which can barely be seen, because the left half of the screen is black, and the right half is distorted.

I was looking at the block diagrams... perhaps it could be the D-Board, or the SS-Board. I guess the first step is going to be to dig into it and see if there's anything obvious.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW, no blinking error codes or anything like that to work off.

    Thanks,

    Mike
