Model number LN52A550, the set has an intermittent vertical bar in the screen, about 3" wide, just to the left of the middle. Sometimes it's white, sometimes it's black, sometimes it's a bunch of digital distortion, sometimes it's multicolored lines, but, whenever it happens, I turn the set off and right back on, the bar will be gone. Sometimes it will stay gone for a few seconds, sometimes for hours. I actually did a factory reset in the service menu today, and haven't seen a single trace of the bar since. I noticed the bar seems to want to show up more when there's a bright scene, or static white noise, but since the factory reset I can't get it to even hiccup. Any ideas? And the fact that it goes away right after I shut it off and turn it back on makes me wonder what it really could be.

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
It's only there sometimes. Lately it's been rare. It comes and goes, and when it comes, you turn it off and right back on and it will be gone, sometimes for hours, sometimes only for seconds. But turning it off for a second almost always fixes it.Comment

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
I'd guess T-con but it could be the panel too. I say T-con because I had a 40" Samsung with digital noise on the screen, only it wasn't intermittent on mine. I would have sworn it was the panel but a few tests ruled it out and sure enough a new T-con fixed it.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
By digital noise I mean that bar area is extremely distorted, like a bad signal from an HD antenna, glitchy and everything, but if you turn it off and back on, it will be 100% fine. If I push around on the T-Con board, it should *maybe* act up right?Comment

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
Took the back off, tapped around the T-Con board and ribbon cables to see if there would be any change, and now it's just a solid multicolored line that never goes awayHelp.

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
My problem was this exactly, but only a 3" bar, not half the screen.

Now it's just a multicolored line.Comment

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
I had the same TV and I concluded that the panel is bad. The top right tabs are getting very hot and the driver ICs in the tabs are overheated.
Maybe yours is not that far gone yet and maybe you can still fix it.
I have put some aluminum sheet metal strips below the tab chips for cooling them(heat sink).
On mine I had almost 3/4 of the screen filled with these multicolored lines.Comment

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
To get to the tabs, I have to take the front plastic off, correct?Comment

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
Strange thing happened, put it all back together, I was giving up since I didn't want to tear into the frame. Powered it up, the multicolored bar was still there, so I put on Avatar for fun, just to see if it would go away. 20 minutes into the movie the bar disappeared, and is now showing no signs of returning... I'll report back if anything else happens.Comment

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
Update, bar is back. It comes and goes. Now there's horizontal lines on the bottom left third of the screen? They extend about 3/4's of the way over the bottom over and slowly fade as they get closer to the edge of the right side. They come and go too, sound like the T-Con board at all? I'll post a picture soon.Comment

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
Okay so here's a picture of the horizontal lines, you can see the multicolored bar, and here's a short video of what the bar does when it's acting up and showing that sometimes turning it off makes it work perfectly. I apologize for the bad quality and no audio, it's all I have at the moment but it gets the point across.

Re: Samsung 52" LCD Intermittent Vertical Bar
The horizontal lines or the vertical bar? I'll have to take it back apart, but unplugging the one for the left half of the screen would remove the vertical bar, unplugging the right one wouldn't affect the bar, but it would cause the whole left half of the screen to have slow refresh and only display blue. The horizontal lines weren't there when I tried this. I'll take it back apart when I get a few minutes.Comment

Summary for TL-DR readers:
• Backlight is intermittent, may come on with TV boot or not. No flickering, never fails during TV on.
• Have obtained Samsung schematic & service documents - Can upload if helpful.
• Have read ALL applicable threads
• C1818 and CP820 replaced as low hanging fruit
• CN802 data taken for normal and failed BL operation. SUMMARY: Pin 2 - 5vDet = 3.52 @normal, 0.0 @BL fail. Pin 6 - EPWM = 1.631 @normal, 1.058 @BL fail.

by JesusJonesTrash picked this plasma for parts and found it had some bad solder joints. It powered on after reworking most of the boards and seems like it may even work.
The symptoms is, when showing a picture of bright (mostly white) intensity (within the affected area only) a vertical strip 2 3/4" wide will begin to fuzz out (just to the right of samsung logo, 16 3/8" from screen edge), and soon turns black (from top to bottom). Changing to a darker scene immediatley ater will cause the black stripe to fade back in (it fuzzes and clears up again) and it starts working just fine.... -
