Panasonic DVD recorder shutting down on disc spinning

In a friend's Panasonic DVD recorder (I forgot the model, around 2004), the disc would spin up before shutting down and starting up again. When this happens, the voltages from the power supply disappear. The player works OK when it has warmed up, but about a week later, the same problem happened again, which I suspected a thermal problem.

I then used a hairdryer to heat up some of the components. It had no effect, so I suspected there was an overcurrent being detected in the spindle motor.

When it was sent into a repair shop, they found that the SMPS controller (STR-G6351) was faulty. So I was apparently right about some sort of overcurrent problem. But the SMPS controller was incorrectly sensing an overload in any case, even though all other components were good . I could have tried freezer spray on it, but the problem is now fixed.

(Before I used the hairdryer on it, the power supply was ticking until it turned on - the repair shop was right about the SMPS controller!)

    sounds like a bad lytic.
bad ones often work better after warm up.
most str chips i see bad are shorted.

Re: Panasonic DVD recorder shutting down on disc spinning

This sounds almost exactly like the problem I had with my old VCR. After pressing power on, it would power off 1 second later. Eventually, if you keep pressing the power button, it stays on... but needs an extra 5 minutes to 'warm up' before it outputs a signal!

Finally it died completely - I opened it up and found what appeared to be a bulged Panasonic FC. Proof that even 'good' caps can go bad sometimes...

Open up the machine and see if there are any bulged or vented caps. If so, other components may already have suffered permanent damage.
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

As I said earlier, there are no bulging or leaking capacitors in this unit (mainly KY series in the power supply).

Panasonic DMR-EZ48V DVD/VHS combo - DVD recorder part not working
          by Ady2017
I have recently inherited a Panasonic DMR-EZ48V DVD/VHS combo after my dad died. I tried to record a DVD with it and it worked for about 5 mins before it suddenly stopped. Since then it just keeps making a noise like it is trying to read a disk but then gives a 'no read' error message. I have tried numerous DVD's and it is definitely the recorder that is the problem. I did find a youtube video showing that capacitors on the power board were a common problem on these and so I went ahead and replaced the capacitors but it is still doing the same thing. I now think that it could be the laser that...

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
          by Junior††

          Good Afternoon fellas,

          Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
          - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
          - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
          - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

          Question:
          I...

Panasonic SAPM-31 Mini hifi, Tapedeck motor spinning all the time
          by lcdcaps1
          Hi
I have a Panasonic SAPM-31 mini hifi and the tape deck motor keeps spinning all the time
If I just connect the ribbon cable to PCB That is connected to the motor, it spins continuously

If I change the input it still spins

I have put it all back together with all the belts in place and still
I can play, forward and rewind but the motor never stops when I press stop

This never used to happen so I am not sure if a transistor has failed or a diode
I will really appreciate the help from this forum
          Thanks all

Panasonic TC-P55ST50 8 blinks then no blinks
          by Andre Gilbert
Hello! yes I know there is already lots of information about this issue. I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 that originally displayed an 8-blink error code. Following the troubleshooting flowchart, I ended up replacing the SS board. However, even after replacing it, the issue persists. The TV turns on and stays on without displaying an image, and continuity is confirmed on all connectors. What am I missing here🤔?
Ok Im a mechanical engineer ...but I thought I was able to follow a rather simple flowchart for electric troubleshooting 😂.

DVR recorder Switching power supply Failure
          by sam_sam_sam
When I originally started with my DVR recorder it had 4 individual switching switching power supply’s that were sh*t so I bought a 7 amp 12 volt switching power supply and modified the output plug and put a four output power supply cable to match the input power supply cable inputs

Which worked for over 14 years until a few days ago when the cameras went dark no picture anymore well it turns out now the switching power supply has stopped working altogether now so I have to troubleshoot what has happened to this power supply more later on today what I found
