    Plasma IPM rebuilding/repair??!

    Hello,

I saw that some people rebuild a broken IPM modules for plasma Y/Z boards. It's based on disassembling IPM module and replacing fried FET's and components. Some try to fit standard FET's inside IPM housing and others put FET's outside connected to IPM board with wires. Possibilities are endless, and it sounds like lot of fun ;-) I see some of IPM's are filled inside with some kind of epoxy or silicone, it looks hard to clean it to expose components inside IPM.

Did anybody have some experience with IPM rebuilding/repair? Any success??

There are few tries on this forum, but best resource is this Russian thread, which I don't understand a word. Pictures are impressive!!

Use google translate. It isn't perfect, but it should give you some idea. If you use Chrome browser, it should ask if you want the webpage translated (assuming you have that option enabled).

BTW, one retiredcaps bonus point for pictures of your multimeter in the other thread.

Retiredcaps, thank you for bonus point. Are these bonus points official on badcaps or just your personal compliment? Well, I didn't think I'll end up as BadCaps medal collector ;-)

About IPM rebuild/repair, it seems few FET's and few decent diodes cost more than whole IPM so repair is not profitable as there is no grant it will work. But to make a whole new pcb with control circuitry and separate FET's and diodes on large heatsink as a direct replacement for IPM sounds like cool project and fun. Of course, not for my old pitiful 480p TV but maybe for some popular fancy 50" HD plasma to make it fail-safe...

      Cheers!

Acer Nitro XV273 and Predator XB273, look inside and disassembly guide.
          by Flaku_34
          Introduction:
Hello everyone, this topic is more of a knowledge sharing and look inside type of post, but for someone working on this model of display it might be useful. Recently I bought Acer Nitro XV273 XB MIIPRZX with busted electronic, but screen was intact, price was incredibly low, so I took a gamble and bought the unit and try to fix it. As I dug inside, I found out that my motherboard was not responding, although all voltages seemed fine. I wasn't able to find any reliable information about this monitor on the web (only some pictures of motherboards from Ebay). By some research...

Hitachi 55HDS69 55" Plasma TV - No Picture But Sound
          by KYBOSH
Picked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.

When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on...

          Hello,
I am having Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV. While the TV was working, a crackling sound heard & video went off with audio still ON. After switching it off & ON, the red LED on TV blinks six times & then off.
Opened TV cover & observed foll
          a) Green LED on the small PCB blinks at @5-6sec ON & off for 3-4 secs. Red LED on logic board ON
b)Vs & Va on power supply board raises momentarily to 209v & 58v resp & then drops.
          c) Cold test on Y-main board shows all 3 pins of FGPF4536 IGBT short to Grnd.

          Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
          by jm1234
          Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...
