    Magnavox 42MF521D/37 42-Inch

    History
    =======
    my little bro purchased This off facebook about a month ago and tried to fix it himself he replaced a few caps around 2018 but still no luck.

    Symptoms
    ========

    TV doesn't turn on, no Light nothing

    Power supply comes on but chirps and gets hot at 2 p6Ke120A's

    Analysis
    ========

    1) i think the power supply may be bad.
    2) not sure about the main board but it has a bunch of brown stuff all over the board.

    I believe this is caused by a shorted TVS near 12.jpg. With no power applied, check the diodes for shorts using the diode test mode of a multimeter. The diodes are the black devices with a white band, e.g. 6054.

      Looks like all 5 of those Diodes in that picture are shorted.

        Do they read the same both ways?

          All of them but 6066 have the same measurements both ways.

            Okay, that sounds pretty shorted to me. Do you have the ability to remove the diodes, is there a part # on them?

              p6Ke120A on 2 of them was just making sure they were shorted before ordering some new ones, suppose their is probably nothing locally to use.

                Yeah, that's most likely a Digikey thing to order:

                Still, ~$5 to fix a TV... not bad...

                    Good idea. These Magnavox PSUs kill caps like no other. I would suggest Panasonic FM or FR replacements.

                      Also, we have found that even though the caps are replaced and the Diodes are not shorted. since, the diodes are fast recovery they still need replacing

                      Sometimes the power supply will chirp. This is coming from the Transformer not turning on due to defective Diodes. We have used ECG156 or equivalent. work perfectly and, are available at most electronic distributors. we buy them by the 100's @ .50/each

                      Just thought this may help a few people

                        Just repaired one of these last week. Replaced the two zener diodes 6055 and 6054, and
                        the 3 1500mf caps on the secondary side. Another post here mentioned that the two zeners
                        could be replaced with Radio Shack #276-1114 1.5A/1000v diodes. Tried that temporarily
                        and the set fired right up. Ordered the correct zener diodes from Digi-Key for the permanent fix.

                        (original symptom of the TV was the power supply chirping noise and voltage varying).

                          I have an opportunity to buy one of these broken from craigslist, unseen. What's a fair/safe price to offer for it. If it's a matter of caps and diodes I can fix it.

                            What caused the BSOD?
                            by Gibon378
                            Hello there!
                            I was doing some usual stuff, browsing the internet, listening to music, coding, etc. and my computer froze. It looked like the website couldn't process the request (logging into the account, there was the loading symbol) and it took a few seconds, then my computer totally froze except for the mouse cursor. It lasted for about a minute and I got the BSOD. It happened yesterday and today (just now).

                            I managed to get the MEMORY.DMP content, but I don't really understand it. Could somebody help me?

                            Code:

                            by Uranium-235
                            Does anyone have high frequency sensitivity hearing and a motherboards have tons of sounds coming from it? Is this just coil whine en masse? When data to the SSD has high I/O I can hear the clicks and chirps. Same with when the graphics drive inits. Network adapters, chirping after I connect the cable

                            I can hear everything. Every time I put my ear to let's say an open Shuttle XH series pc (currently working on) in the next room it sounds like I'm in the middle of a the fucking public bird aviary

                            Of course this isn't just the shuttle, though I think the small case...

                            Magnavox 27MS5402/17 CRT - no picture, flashing green light
                            by sudz28
                            I'm going to assume my beloved Magnavox CRT is toast, but also figured maybe this was a good opportunity to dip my toes into he circuitry waters and maybe learn something new. Also, I don't want to trash it if it's a fairly cheap/easy fix!

                            My 20-year-old Magnavox has gotten me and my kids through many a gaming console change and worked great up until the other day. Following a long distance move, it sat in our garage for a year and now that I brought it in and turned it on I get no picture; instead, a green light blinks on the front of it; 7 flashes, one long flash, then 3 more...

                            Magnavox 32MD350B/F7 getting a false on/off control voltage
                            by barrybahr
                            Hello,
                            The unit is stuck in an intermittent on/off cycle. When I plug in the power cord, the green "On" light activates without any command, flashes for a few seconds, then turns off. The red standby light comes on for a few seconds before the cycle repeats. During this time, I cannot turn off the unit manually; it will shut off automatically after about five minutes, and there is no picture. Occasionally, with repeated attempts to power it on, I eventually get a picture and sound, which function properly. When it does work, I measure several voltages, and they appear to be normal....
