Help with Philips LCD with no picture or sound

I have a Philips 42pfl7432d-37 LCD tv that has recently lost picture and sound. The picture went first. Then, a few days later, suddenly I had no sound. There were no problems leading up to this. The unit will power up. The power light on the front is lit and I will hear a momentary clicking noise inside the unit. I plugged my other tv into the devices to see if one of them was the problem. It was not. It would be great if I could get some troubleshooting help. I have little experience with electronics other than building a computer.

It may help if you would search on you TV's model number - 42pfl7432d/37. There are already two threads on this TV. I suggest you at least browse them. If you need more help, take a picture of the back of your TV (with the back cover removed) and attach it using 'Manage Attachments - below the text entry area. If additional pictures are required we will ask for them.

Sorry about that. I typed the model number in the search box and it had 0 results. However, searching through the same issues with other model #'s I think I have found the problem. The largest of the black chips on the master inverter board has a small hole in it.

I think you have found the problem. If the master inverter has an LG Electronics part number, there is a design problem with these - and a modification that should be done.

The part # IS an LG/Philips. It's LC420WU5. As far as repair it goes, do I need to replace the chip or the entire board? Regardless, where would one obtain either one of these? Is this going to be the reason for having no audio as well?

That is not the complete part number by any chance is the number 6632L-0470A or 6632L-0471A on the board? Here is the link to the modification.

Repair kits are available for about $12 - $15 on eBay - that does not include parts for doing the modification.

Thank you, PlainBill. You have been a great help. I have found the repair kits you mentioned. Where can I get the parts for the modification?

As you dont have your location in your profile this may not be suitable. If you are in UK/Europe then CHS have the kits:

                http://www.chsinteractive.co.uk/view...product=160007

                Alternatively Google: 996500095005 kit

CHS have this labelled as a repair kit, but with the part number and the price I am pretty sure it is the modification kit. The photo would back this up.

How do I go about removing the black chips from the inverter board? Once removed, how do I replace them? Do I need special tools?

There are youtube videos on soldering. "Black Chips' does not give me a good feeling (much like you would get if a doctor listens to your heart and says 'Oh-oh!!'). They are ICs and transistors (or FETs). Chip-Quik and a good soldering iron are required.

May I suggest that replacing a SMT transistor is not a task for a novice, particularly a power FET. I would suggest it might be better to simply buy a replacement board.

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                      by TR103
                      Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                      - sound and backlight, but no picture
                      - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                      - it keeps rebooting
                      - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                      - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                      - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                      - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                      by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                      by Ierwin
                      Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

Samsung UN70NU6900F no picture and no sound
                      by jchang
                      Hi all

I was just given a Samsung TV with the issue. I read various threads and videos and attempted the ribbon tape method to gain an image, but no luck.

                      Symptom:
                      No picture no sound.
When I plug in the power cord, Backlight LED turns on for a half second and then turns off. The red LED next to the power button located center bottom flashes 2 or 3 times. When the power button is pressed after, it does the same thing.
                      No sound at all.

                      What I tried:
                      1. I tried unplugging the left or right ribbon...

Philips 43PUS7506/12 - Loud blown out sound
                      by aidanmo
                      Hello,

I've got a really strange issue with the speakers on my Philips 43PUS7506/12. It makes this awful loud buzzing now. It happened after it was attempted to be wall mounted - I think the back got squeezed and something broke.
I thought maybe the speakers got damaged, so I replaced them - no dice.
                      • Using the internal speakers, it always happens.
                      • Using the headphone jack, it never happens.
                      • Using the digital/optical out with a soundbar - it happens after about 2h/movie runtime - it's never as drastic, it just pops in and out, but I didn't want it to damage the sound bar
                      ...
