need help with surround sound

I have a Samsung LN S4041DX/XAA I hooked up an RCA dvd surround sound but I cant get the tv sound to come through I have it connected exactly as the instructions says....the trouble shooting says there could be an issue with the tv on outputting audio to external devices. I dont have a manual or the correct remote

Can you get to the menus? Some have a selection for the type of output. Also some require a selection for the type of digital output. Try PCM if yours has it.
