    Plasma Screen Test?

    Hi Everyone
Where I live, there is no garbage pick up, everyone hauls their "stuff" to one of numerous landfills. At these landfills there are numerous Plasma Tv's, all missing the PCB's(hoarded by a guy who has no idea how to fix a burnt out light bulb), they all seem intact, connectors and screen look undamaged.
Is there a way to test the screen with out the specific units boards? Is there some way to light up the board like with a say "generic" test circuit, there are so many and I'm sure they could be used by people who are capable of performing the screen swap.
    Any Ideas?

It can't be done for a plasma panel, it MIGHT be possible with a LCD panel.

This training manual contains a section on how to put a specific Samsung plasma panel into self test (stand alone) mode. To do that you will have to have the buffers, sustains, and main logic board as well as the proper power supply at the right voltages, and there are about a dozen adjustments that must be done to get it working.

With a LCD panel it appears there is an equivalent function on most tcons (although I have never seen it documented). For that you will again need the proper power supply and at a minimum a CCFL tester.

For a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

If you have a variable high power signal generator capable of putting out a square wave from -200V to +200V at at least 1.5 amps, then yes - it may be possible. I'm guessing this is not standard equipment.

Maybe it's possible to use mains voltage, wouldn't bet on it. Probably blow the panel up.

Here someone demonstrates how 12kV can light up a panel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxNd97PIar0

However the panel is very quickly damaged by this due to internal arcing.

With LCDs you might not even need the CCFLs to light up. You can look carefully at most LCDs for damage to the screen; when off, certain parts look a bit darker than the rest. This won't catch all types of damage, for example on the edges it will be quite difficult to see the damage.

Sounds like an opportunity to place local ads offering free recycling services for electronics to your fellow citizens so they can save time, gas, etc.

A few people do this where I live. They get free parts and the people who don't want their stuff save time, gas, and busting their backs.

This sounds like the same guy who told you an electronics course was a waste of time?

          Re: Plasma Screen Test?

I wonder how they test them at the factories? actually the guy who hoards the boards is a ying yang who has spawned other ying yangs one being the local repair guy,who said it was a waste of time, and he does it because he doesn't want his son to have the parts because he didn't hire his sister to sell their house back in '87 before they moved onto pine st.....
I am advertising free pick up of DLP, LCD/LED and plasma TV's for free, got 2 already, 1 up and running and offered ying yang Sr a case of beer for the stash of parts, he said bottle of whiskey and its a deal, so I will be off to the liquer store and grab a 10$ bottle and put it in my single malt bottle - hahaha
Thanks everyone for the input, gives me some things to think about

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
              by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ85U No screen No blinks on red power light
              by Alicat
              Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

              Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

Lg TCon test pins for screen test
              by alltvrepairs
              Hi,
i have a 65 Panasonic TX-65HX710E using vestel 17MB170 main and Lg tcon.

Few drops of water fell probably near COF and have no display. Tried removing tabs but no.part of display present as if tcon fuse open. However 12v is present and tcon can be felt warm enough that supplies are present. Backlight and sound ok.

Anyone knows if this TCon 6870c-0805A has any special test pins for rgb test?

              Appreciate your help....

Panasonic Plasma screen interference on left half of screen
              by Zelek11
My Panasonic Plasma model P55VT50 has started displaying "interference" on just the left half of the screen only (left when facing the screen). Sometimes it's concentrated in about the first 30 seconds after startup, then disappears. Other times it's fine at startup and then randomly does it later on. When it flashes the interference it's very quick and doesn't stay on the screen unless it flashes repeatedly in a row.

This image is a screen shot from a video I took. This is an example of the interference at its worst. Often the interference is much smaller...

              Samsung UE55JU6800K half screen dark
              by Chrissygizmo
Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...
