    Samsung BN44-00342B Diode ID Help

well Fellas I am a NUBE but I hope I can show I am not completely Clueless with in my first real Post.

I USED THE SEARCH I PROMISE!

I Just picked up a 9 month old samsung LN55C630 55" LCD TV No Video had sound was the Symptom. I assumed Caps I have fixed a couple TVs with cap Issues. When I removed the covers and pluged it in It Imeadatley made the high pitche squeel and i could smell Ozone off the power supply! I knew the Squeel ment Diode!

On the Board in the in Locaton DP180 there is a Diode Marked MUR 460 001
it was clearley Smoked it was Hot in a matter of seconds and the board had some discoloration and the Diode was Split! I tested the Diode with my Multi meter and its Zeroed out both Directions After I unSoldered it from the Board.

So here is where I need some help. anyone have any idea how to get the Data of what I need to replace this Diode? when I type into Google MUR460 001 I get this back http://html.alldatasheet.com/html-pd.../1/MUR460.html and that says its a Super fast Rectifier?????? UMMM OK?

the back of the Board shows your standard Diode Symbol stripe to the left???

Also I would Like to know if anyone knows what may have been the Likely the reason this part Failed? Do I still have a bad Cap maybe that caused it??? Or any suggestions on other things I should check???

That is a high current fast recovery diode. Here is the datasheet:

          1. Don't post pictures inline. It seriously inconveniences retiredcaps and pisses off others - there are threads that I now ignore because some yahoo loaded it with oversize pictures.

          2. We need pictures of YOUR power supply.

          3. Four posts to do what could have been done with one - typical newbie mistake.

          4. The MUR460 is a 4.0A, 600V Ultra Fast Recovery Diode and is available for $.65 to $.84 from Digi-Key.

          5. As to why it failed - it's hard to tell without a picture of the power supply that failed, isn't it?

Well Bill I am sorry I am such a Nube!

The supply in the pic is not Failed. But the one I removed Clearly Failed its cracked and Burnt as well as heat marks on the board. the board shows No other Signs of failure no buldged caps or obvious loose items. I will get one found or ordered and search the board for any cold connections.

Thank you for the post Critique! I will try to fall inline in the future. You guys are a Wealth of knowledge! I love it!

The fact that the supply continued to work surprises me. Still, don't spend too much time determining why, just replace the diode as planned.

Think I shake some Ecu's or main relays apart?)........and I have to say this has to be the most crap-tastic Job I have ever seen! I went over the whole board with a Nice hot precision Iron and lil Flux. there were alot of points that look suspect!

In my reading on here I expected cheap shotty board but this in Insane I am sure happy I didnt pay top dollar for this tv!

Lead free solder is the bane of the electronics tech.

Ah! Good for you. You got a nice TV. A brand new 55 inch LCD still costs over $1,000.

Damn. Beats my 42" I got from the local tip. Cost £20 to buy it from them and had four bad capacitors, was a dead easy fix (cost around £5 all in and had some spare caps left over to repair a Samsung 40".) Will need to look around for a nice 50-55" TV now... of course not at a retail price...

                                Hello guys,
                                My tv has a PSU # BN44-00342B.
It stopped all of a sudden due to power failure, as you see it is a ceramic green Cap that has blown, but unfortunately nothing left from it so ican get a replacement; can someone help?
