lg 50ps3000 no picture no signal warning in foriegn language

i have a problem with my lg-50ps there is no picture or sound, screen displays no signal in a foriegn language "Nini signal" romote control only works on volume control and channel selection, no menu etc,have noticed pressing any button now turns on tv where as before only power button would do.Ive not took the back off yet this is my first play with a plasma looks like its a matter of changing a board but the fault seems unusual have googled it and found identical problem but no results suspect the control board but am still scratching my head on this

Precisely my thought when I read your post. No, not the strange behavior of the TV.

The problem with the TV is most likely due to a bad main board (the 'control board' in a plasma TV is a specific board that is unrelated to the volume and channel controls. The fact you get an image on the screen shows it is good). I'd check outputs of the power supply before replacing the main board.

My first job would be to check out put voltage on psu then check suspect caps on y and z suss after I am sure everything is ok I would then reprogram eeprom witch is most likely corrupt.

eeprom sounds interesting when the tv is first switched on, in the top right "AV2 blu-ray"is displayed for a few seconds then it goes to the no signal"Nini signal" display, not so sure its is a board fault, wouldnt know how to reprogram eeprom

Service manual:

Yes while it might be a bad main board there's often a reset to factory settings option in the service menu. And that doesn't require an EEPROM programmer.

Some people have apparently had luck with pressing the MENU button on the remote at the same time as pressing the MENU button on the TV. If this brings up a menu post back here.

yep this worked pressing the menu buttons twice together brings up menu, this has allowed me access to main menu, i have set language back to english and found nearly all other settings had been changed, but when i scroll across the menu bar it skips past setup and input, the remote seems to be working normally now, no signal sign comes back up after a few seconds, so still got problems

That sounds like it might be in Demo or Hotel mode.

Try Factory Reset on the service menu. It might be buried under several other menus, or perhaps the service manual has some hints.

it was store mode but changed this to home been into all menus cant find a factory reset, nothing in service manual on this, could the reason it skips past the input and setup icons be because there not there anymore could contol board fault cause this

Yes, most likely it's either in hotel or shop mode. I can't think of a failure that would lock out those features. On one TV I had, you had to turn on the inputs in the service menu after erasing the settings or EEPROM. Maybe this is your problem?

been through all menu i can access with no luck there seem to be an engineers remote for this,could there be other setting that have been corrupted which i dont have access to

have noticed there is a input button on the tv when pressed it displays KEY LOCK ON anyone know how to turn this off

Can you post a picture of the service menu?

We aren't magic, and the service manual isn't helping - so let's take a lucky guess at where the shop/hotel mode is.

had a talk with lg today about this fault and they told me how to do a factory reset,the option for this is should be in options where i have been looking all along, this option is no longer in the menu,it has gone, it has disappeared, its vanished???. any ideas would be wellcome .

well when i say sorted it i mean i had it repaired locally, without a service remote u cannot enter the service menu," will be buying one of those" the place i took it to has had 3 sets with the same fault in the past 3 weeks reckons the tv was updating its software when it went wrong. he reloaded it from laptop and had to alter virtually all settings,its been working fine for past few days, thanks tom66 and plainbill for your input
