This was a Craigslist special. The price was good - free. The gentleman even included the remote, the power adapter, and the original box. All that was missing was the Owner's Manual. The problem was described as 'started to cycle on and off constantly'.
When researching known problems with this TV I discovered the power brick was a common failure point. This seemed to be confirmed when the power LED on the brick wouldn't come on. But a quick measurement showed 12.6 volts present.
Unlike common designs, this power brick was actually held together by screws. Open it up, and sure enough, both output caps were bulging at the top. One had vented, the other blew out the bung!!!
According to my inventory sheet, I should have had a pair of caps on hand, but they apparently had already been used (poor inventory control is one of my weaknesses). A little scrounging and I found a pair of Panasonic FCs in a failed repair job (not one of mine, fortunately). A little soldering and the power supply came back to life. And the TV lives!
I found the brand name rather ironic.
