    samsung plasma tv no pic or sound

    Hi all.
    My tv stopped working this morning.
    Once plugged into mains the relay kicks in, on then off. Then when i switch on from tv the relay clicks then i get 4 led flashes on front of tv then nothing.
    I found a service manual on the net and checked voltages.
    Inside the tv the sticker indicates these voltages should be,

    va= 70 vsc=-70, vs=175 ve=162 vset=173

    but i get,
    va= 70 vsc=-70, vs=33 ve=68 vset=55

    Model no ps-42d4s
    type no. ns42d4
    Is this a power supply fault or x or y board.
    Any tips on what to look for.
    Thanks

    a good first start is to visually look over EVERY electrolytic capacitor and see if any are bulged or vented.

      If a visual inspection doesn't show any bulging caps, try unplugging the power cable to the Y sustain card and rechecking the voltages.

        Thanks for replys
        There are no bulging or leaking caps, i also checked with an ESR meter but all seem ok, although most are in parrallel so there still could be one in there.
        I unplugged the Y main board and got the followin voltages.

        va= 70 vsc= -70 vs= 35 ve = 26 vset = 160 to 170

        thanks

          Strange. This looks like it could be a power supply problem. What happens if you also disconnect the Z-sustain?

            Thanks for reply PlainBill
            I havent got the Samsung service manual for this set, but I found a Philips manual with PDP module s42sd-yd05 in it, which I am using.
            I cant find a z sustain board so I am assuming you meant the x main board. I started from scratch and got the following.
            all boards connected:
            va= 70, vsc= -70, vs= 27, ve= 12, vset= 55 to 10.

            y board disconnected:
            va= 70, vsc= -70, vs= 33, ve= 18to 25, vset= 170.

            x and y board disconnected:
            va= 70, vsc= -70, vs= 38, ve= 156 to 12v, vset=172 to 164.

            y board on x board disconnected:
            va= 70, vsc= -70, vs= 35, ve= 160, vset= 56.

            All fuses ok no dry joints. there is no schematic for this power supply Samsung BN96-01217A, if this is problem.

            Thanks

              I'm inclined to suspect the power supply at this point. At $150 and up for a replacement repair is the only option. Good luck.

                  Please, can anyone help with the appropriate Volts and UF for the 4 big capacitors located upper front part of Samsung BN96-00249A (Power supplier board).

                      Samsung Plasma PN43E450A1F - No Picture / Pop Sound
                      by willis6732
                      The customer of this TV Heard a pop sound before it went dead.

                      The VS and VA voltages turn on imediatly and then slowly die off.

                      I got a replacement Y-Board (Large board on the left) from aliexpress and still no luck

                      If tested all the IC chipson the board all the way on the left by running meter along the connectors and couldnt find any shorts there...

                      I think ive checked most the capacitors for shorts as well as most of the diodes and mosfet/transistors on the big boards.

                      Samsung UN70NU6900F no picture and no sound
                      by jchang
                      Hi all

                      I was just given a Samsung TV with the issue. I read various threads and videos and attempted the ribbon tape method to gain an image, but no luck.

                      Symptom:
                      No picture no sound.
                      When I plug in the power cord, Backlight LED turns on for a half second and then turns off. The red LED next to the power button located center bottom flashes 2 or 3 times. When the power button is pressed after, it does the same thing.
                      No sound at all.

                      What I tried:
                      1. I tried unplugging the left or right ribbon...

                      Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                      by Ierwin
                      Hello everyone,
                      Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
                      The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
                      He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
                      I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
                      Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

                      what i went through dealing with my mobo with dead onboard sound!
                      by ChaosLegionnaire
                      so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

                      i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...
