    PANASONIC TX-P50S20B 50" Plasma

I have a PANASONIC TX-P50S20B, this was collected for a glass screen repair, as scratched outer screen, when it arrived at the repair center they phoned to say there were three white lines running down the center of the screen, when the screen was switched on.
They sent it back to me, i plugged in and can see the three white lines that are about an inch thick.
This is on all inputs, sky, wii etc. It appears on the screen even when there is no input, with just the TV turned on.
    Would anyone have any ideas.
I repaired an old Plasma i had that had similar with a new board, do you think this needs similar ?.
    Thank you, for any help.

It depends. This looks like a defective vertical (X) driver. On some plasma TVs the X drivers are on a separate board. If that is the case here, the appropriate board can be easily replaced. On other panels the drivers are bonded to the flat flex cable, and are not replaceable.

The service manual might be some help.

As Bill suggested check out the manual and look up the C2 board (Data Driver (Lower Center)). Looking at your picture and noting where the vertical error is I'd check this board and it's connections.

          Hi Guys,

          Thanks for the response.

Since that picture was taken i switched the TV on and there is a thick black line now underneath the stripes.

I took off the ribbon at the bottom where the lines end and it looks ok there is a small chip on the underside, is this what you mean by a part that can not be changed ?.

I disconected the ribbon next to it the thick black lne apeared there as well, do you think this is a board fault or the screen has gone ?.

Thanks for all the help so far.

          Martin

You may also see a burn spot on the underside of the ribbon cable confirming pdp failure.
(the back side of the chip). It is very thin and should have a heat sink mounted to it. The last couple of plasmas by panasonic I looked at were made this way (2007-2009) so far. I don`t know about older or newer pdps by Panasonic.

                  Hi,

                  Thanks for all the replys.

There is a small burn mark between two silver contact lines on the ribbon, is this fatal for the panel or can it be repaired ?.

Can you get the panels ?

Is it worth it or should i just break and sell as spares on ebay ?

                  Thank you.

Can not repair and a new panel can be shipped from panasonic for 480.00 and they are on backorder. The new one will fail in 2 years again unless they were somehow updated like other boards are (if you are lucky) but I wouldn`t count on it.
