    Westinghouse SK-19H210S trouble

Hi, I am one of the 1,000's of people that purchased this tv and it quit working! It was bought in May 2008 and quit working in June 2009, 1 month past the warranty that came with it. I have finally got around to trying to repair it. I put in the 16v 2200 capacitor,(ce 105 location) replacing the 10v cap, it worked well for about 6 hours, then I started losing all controls. The volume does not go up as high as it use to,(when there is sound) I can't change channels, and now this am, I can't turn it off, the remote does almost nothing, along with the buttons in the side of the tv.
Anyone have any ideas, or should I have replaced all of the caps? As of this afternoon, after it was unplugged all day, I can now change the channels and other features work again, but the volume does not go as loud as when I first got it up and running. It was used very little, that is why I am trying to save it....or should I give up?

What type of capacitor did you use for a replacement. It makes a difference as to what brand and type (general purpose versus low ESR).

Also, we will pictures of your boards. See Misc suggestions #1 on how to post pictures ...

      Thanks for the reply retiredcaps!
I took it out of an old computer power supply-it was a Rubycon. The one I took out of my tv was a capxon. I don't have a pic of the board, it is all put together at the moment.

Rubycon makes fine caps, but they also make a variety of caps for different applications. Also, depending on the age of the power supply, usage, abuse, heat, that Rubycon cap could also be near the end of its useful life.

If you plan to keep this Westinghouse for a while, most here will suggest you use a new cap. From other posts and if your board is like theirs, I think I counted 9 capacitors in total.

9 low ESR caps + shipping from digikey.com is less than $10 USD.

Thank you for the advice. Now that I know the tv is worth fixing I will replace them all. Do you think I should order the bad cap in the original 10 volt, or should I replace it with the 16 volt that has been suggested? Thanks again sir...

You can go to 16V IF the physical dimensions allow it to fit properly.

One of the common myths is that going with a higher voltage capacitor is somehow going to prevent future problems. The original caps in your TV did not fail because their voltage rating was too low. They failed because they were of low quality (garbage is perhaps more accurate) and suffered a common fate for junk caps. Replacing them with good quality caps of the original voltage rating is the best way to repair the power supply.

Snow? Oh, yeah, I remember that. We left Minnesota 29 years ago.

We don't get much snow down here in Phoenix. Whenever I get the urge to see some I plan a trip to Flagstaff (2 hours away), check the live weather reports from there, and the urge goes away.

I have the same tv, turned into a pc monitor (2ndary) replace all with original spec rubycon caps and make sure you put the control panel back in properly without pinching the ribbon cable and it will work wondfully. Haven't messed with mine in so long, I forgot it ever had an issue almost lol.
