Yes if the screen is cracked/broken, unless you are lucky enough to find a compatible screen from a donor tv, since new screens are like 80 % of the cost of a new tv.

Ha I’ll bear that in mind Mr S!

Am I also right in thinking that a solid rule of thumb for ensuring a profit can be made on a tv is that if there’s screen damage it’s probably beyond economical repair?

Sure, there's always a market for used tvs, it's all about the pricing. Some of the shit tvs like those samsung NU we keep going over probably should not be resold for safety sake.

    Great thread to learn from!

I’ve been going through a few threads I feel will be beneficial to me to get the most out of as a complete beginner at this sort of thing. I do have a Telly I’m trying to repair just now and will start a thread of my own about it tomorrow when I have the back panel off to take photos as I see and read that’s the thing the people on here who are giving the solid advice ask for first and foremost.

I’m determined to be able to learn enough about the repair of old tellys to be able to make a side hustle from it. I’m sure there’s many more experienced people on here rolling their eyes at what I’ve said but god loves a trier apparently haha.

Some wonderful info on here and overwhelming/daunting acronyms as well!

I hear you, I wouldn't even give half that for one, thought this was funny, check out the list of details, look at the one right under TV Energy Star Rating: https://www.winnings.com.au/p/hisens...ed-lcd-tv-50p6

    thanks Diah,

It appears that I will need to try source one at the right price, as the one's that I have seen over here in Australia, come in at a high price of $199, which for a "try part", is simply out of my league to resurrect a 2nd hand tv.

As a learning key for me, how is it finally determined by some people, when they post about vertical lines etc, they then say it has to be a "panel issue"?

If a panel can display all coloured lines across the display, to me, how does that indicate to some people that the panel is no good?

I guess all I can hope for is to find someone wrecking a whole tv that doesn't work to try extract a part, but then my fear is , that the part I purchase, may infact be damaged as well?

    lotas, Diah,nomoresonys...

I followed Diah instructions exactly, thanks for the very clear instructions.

I used a 4GB usb stick this time.

Loaded it with the file, changed it's name to upgrade_loader.pkg

Inserted it to Hisense usb port, press power on remote, await boot to let go of power button

Unfortunately it still does as it did before, going straight into the coloured vertical lines, with nothing thereafter.

Tried a number of times, as well as trying in both of the Hisense usb ports.

Gosh, it seems so simple a thing to do, but this Hisense is simply not behaving for us.

Anything else we can try do you think?

    Thank you everyone.

Maybe that usb drive doesn't want to play nice with your tv, try a different one, you have any less than 8gb?

4- no need 60 second. as son you press power on RC and keep press plug the tv in wall
5-insert the USB at USB Ver2 ( black socket at the side of the TV
    Thanks Diah,

I am certain that this is what I have done.

I did not realise that you could not see the file, but it is as before, posted here again, and is file number 3

    I did it all again

    No change

I d/l it and it shows as usb_AA6501U.pkg

I transfer the file onto formatted FAT 32 stick

I plugged it to tv and it would not boot.

I removed usb, changed file name to

    upgrade_loader.pkg

    Reinsert to tv

    All no go still

I do not know what/how to format is as FAT32 MBR mode

I look in google via search, and it says ....

"The first is to simply format the drive using the MBR format. This can be done in Windows by right-clicking on the drive in My Computer and selecting Format. In the Format dialog box, select the option to format the drive for MBR."

When I do this I only have the options
    NTFS
    FAT32 (default)
    exFAT

In disk management it shows my usb as D 14.32GB FAT32 Healthy Primary Partition

    It shows no errors.

    Am I doing this right?

    THANK YOU

EDIT...file ext only shows .pkg the once.

my post#52 read it again.. your problem at PC
1- you need to active at Folder Option to show known extension file .. so you can see the last extension to avoid it written .pkg.pkg
2- rename the file to upgrade_loader.pkg

    Re: Hisense 50P6

    Back to square one again.

The usb simply seems to be doing nothing.

I keep power unplugged, and drain the power by either holding down the tv or remote power button for 60 seconds.

I then keep holding the power button and plug in the power, holding, awaiting device notification or boot, but that never arrives.

I did also change the file name to upgrade_loader.pkg....no difference.

    Tried either usb port...ditto

My luck with repairs is abysmal.

Are we at the end of any help now?

    Thanks all.

[RoG Ally] Fault in one of the onboard RAM chips. Any way to diagnose which?
    by Prott
    Hello dear badcappers!

The title pretty much says it all - do you, please, know if there's any way to troubleshoot which of the integrated RAM chips (LPDDR5X in this case) is faulty?

    Backstory:
After replacing the 4 onboard (soldered) memory chips on a RoG Ally (4x4 GB to 4x8 GB) it got stuck on the RoG logo. I assume one of the chips is either not soldered properly or faulty. However after reflowing and replacing bunch of them I am still stuck at the same place.

If there is a way to narrow down which memory module is faulty it would make my life much...

    HI guys!

I've got a Samsung LH82QENELGC/EN with a problem and need some advice and I hope this is the forum to use?
I'm from Norway so I'd like to apology in advance if my description of the fault is kind of simple or the names on the components are way off. 😊

the TV is powering up, working as normally and picture is all good, except a 1.5-inch-wide vertical line of snow/static across the screen.

This TV is a Signage Display/Public Display version and it's been used at my work for 4-5 years showing commercials 24/7. The fault occurred when...

    Panasonic SA-MAX770PU SMPSU board fault....
    by Rictech
    Hello everyone. 😀

As per thread title, this unit has a serious SMPSU fault. It blows F1001, which is a 10A M205 in the phase from the mains input.
Very first thing I tried, was simply replacing the fuse, but the replacement ceramic fuse blew immediately.

Looking at the schematic for this PSU, I then removed what I thought was the next likely candidate: D1001 - the HV main bridge rectifier.
This isolated the fault(no longer blows the main fuse), but does not point me to the actual fault.
There are no devices that have exploded or otherwise show signs...

Can I Swap Screens Between Two Hisense 75” QLED TVs?
    by ShahZaib Ghumman
    Hey folks,

I'm not a professional, but I do have a decent amount of knowledge when it comes to electronic repairs.

A friend of mine recently bought a brand new Hisense 75” 4K QLED Smart TV (75E7NQTUK) but unfortunately, he cracked the screen just a few days later. Luckily, he had insurance and got a replacement right away but weirdly enough, the insurance company never asked for the broken unit back.

So, I took it off his hands and figured I'd try to repair it myself rather than see it go to waste. I've been searching for a replacement screen but can't...
