Brother MFC-J480DW printer stuck in maintenance mode

    Hi everyone,

I have a Brother MFC-J480DW printer stuck in maintenance mode (BHL2 USB Maintenance). The screen only shows white bars, and it’s completely unresponsive. The official Firmware Update Tool doesn’t detect it, and I’ve tried multiple versions.

I’m looking for the raw firmware file LZ5313_L.blf (or .djf), compatible with FILEDG32.exe, so I can attempt a manual recovery.

If anyone has a full dump of this model (or a compatible one like MFC-J485DW or J885DW), or knows a private Discord or Telegram group where this kind of firmware is shared, I’d really appreciate your help.

    Thanks in advance 🙏

Okay well this is a tricky one. Maybe I can assist. I just fixed a MFC-J6710DW with the exact issue.

Can I ask did you try and change anything in maintenance mode.? I assume you did and now you can get out of it.

How the 6710DW was fixed was with an Ether net cable + USB and wifi. Yes all 3. Long job turned horrible.

1st estabilish you have wifi connected to the router VIA opening your web browser and confirming its IP address in the router. mine was 192.168.1.13.
Then conencted ethernet and the next address in the router was 192.168.1.14.
Then connected USB and that came back as USB001 or something annoying.

Well had to install software confirming ethernet connection and MANUALLY entering in the above IP address after failed attempts to automatically searching for it. Option was given to me when It failed to find it auto style. I confirmed 192.168.1.14 for ethernet via router table of network. Thus now pushing out the WIFI connection but Router remembers its last known IP allocation of .13.
Once done. Next part is rather vague and was seriously annoying.

Once the ethernet could see the printer via the router, then and only then could i get the update installed which took well over an hour. I say this as the printer had issue talking to me half the time.
When it finally accepted the update to download and flash, it got stuck on 90%. Yes it did fail. BUT!!!!! do NOT stop it. Let it run its course UNTIL it says failed or complete or continue.
I left Install flash to run for 1 hour or more. I went out shopping for jst over an hour. Cam eback and it said failed i think at 90%.

I followed all directions as told by the software. If it says restart then DO IT!!!! BUT.... When you restart do NOT run Brother software to see printer information but RATHER (RUN!!!! Flash program AGAIN!) This time it SHOULD go the full distance of 100%. Mine did.

Like I said, after i got to talk to the printer VIA the router IP hunt checks. Everything went blurred due to anger. Just get your IP addresses noted on paper.
    EG;
    WIFI 192.168.1.13
    LAN/RJ45 192.168.1.14
USB has to be MANUALLY entered by yourself and making a new ADD PRINTER option in windows settings.

Good Luck and I wish you ALL the VERY BEST..... You will need it.

Here is the required link . https://www.brother.co.uk/support/mfcj480dw/downloads

This is your firmware download and should help you to recover your printer BUT id advice you to contact brother help desk. They do have an online platform to assist you. They will require S/n for 100% should the case become escalated.Click image for larger version
