    Maybe I could order an MBR20100CT.

    What about that? Is it identical with the original?

    I am going to replace the main caps (rated 470uF but real capacitance is 390uF) with 680uF 200V caps and the 1000uF secondary caps with 2200 6.3V and 3300 16V.

    Given that the primary transistor is FQA9N90C good for 9A continuous / 36A pulsed and the transformer is ERL 35 how many watt you think it will be able to do after the recap?

    I just added 2 movs on it too.

      Re: Konig CMP-PSUP450W

      I would just get two of those mbr20100's from vishay as different manufacturers may have subtle differences in the same model that will make them incompatible (looks like the minimum order quantity is 5 anyways)

      With that primary switcher, you may be able to do 300~350W.

      http://gr.rsdelivers.com/product/stm...v/4857412.aspx

      That one can do at least 350W, it's whats used on the thermaltake purepower 430W which does 350W before OPP steps in.

These traces go to the supervisory chip, a WelTrend WT751002. On the left side is a trace that looks like it has been repaired by placing a wire on a damaged trace and soldering it in place.

        I have looked at Mouser and Digikey - our two most popular sources for semiconductors here in the USA. They do not carry any WelTrend semiconductors. This may be an indication of their quality. Perhaps someone else can comment on that.

        If you want to change the supervisor chip - looks like most any of the supervisor chips that have 510 in their number should work. Like TL4510 or LS7510, etc. Just make sure it is a 8 pin chip, and check the datasheet for the replacement chip. For a datasheet on the WelTrend WT751002, just google it.
        Btw, the "repaired" trace in the area you circled is a trace that leads to a -12V line capacitor. The original psu cap has been replaced by someone here in Thessaloniki and an inappropriate cap was used, thus the new cap bulged too! I will try to fix the trace when I fully recap the psu. Until then, I have soldered a temp cap at the downside of the pcb, just to be able to see that it works after each mod/improvement.

          Re: Konig CMP-PSUP450W

          I completed the Konig repair and improve project!

          So, to sum up:

          1) I replaced the 4 diodes with a 6A bridge rectifier.

          2) I added a second X capacitor for better transient filtering.

          3) I added 2 metal oxide varistors (mov) for furge protection.

          4) I added inrush current limiter (NTC thermistor).

          5) I replaced the 2 x 470uF input caps with 2 x 680uF 200V Capxon.

          6) I replaced the original MBR20100CT rectifier with 2 x MBR20100CTKPBF at 12V.

          7) I replaced the burnt 5V/12V toroid inductor with one I found from another psu.

          8) I increased the output caps capacity:
          3.3V: 2x1000uF 10V nicon -> 2x2200uF 6.3V Teapo
          5V: 2x1000uF 10V nicon -> 2x2200uF 6.3V Teapo
          12V: 2x1000uF 16V nicon -> 2x3300uF 16V Panasonic FK

          9) Finally, I repaired the broken trace of one of the -12V capacitors.

          So what do you think now of that power supply?

            Looks decent i'd say. The 3.3v coil is also of appropriate size, sounds like this is a keeper.

                  Sorry, I couldn't afford something better at that moment...

                  Btw the thermal control circuit of that power supply was a joke!

                  The pcb has places for all the necessary components but they were missing. Instead, there was only a thermal sensor (the one in the photo) that was connected in series with the fan. As a result, the thermal sensor got very hot while the psu worked because of the excessive current flowing through it.

                  I removed the sensor and connected the fan directly on 12V. It is a 0.14A fan so it doesn't get very noisy.

                  And hopefully this will keep the Teapo caps happy

                        I figured that it must have been a new generation (teenager) idomiatic expression which the older generation (old farts) just did not understand. Perhaps we can start a new thread on....slang.....bang.....idiomatic expressions and oxy-morons in the VIP room. It could be fun there.......and leave the technical threads with more approcreate descriptions.

                                  Because it is stupid.

                                  When I created my account in that forum my only concern was to find or make some safe ("good") power supply units for the new pcs I had built at that time using parts I got for free.

                                  With the help of the members of that forum I have learned so many things about power supplies and electronics in general..

                                  Soon, I started asking questions about other stuff and later I was able even to fix some mobile phones, graphics cards and more.

                                  So I really owe you much and I think that nickname is not suitable for me anymore.

                                  Could topcat change it to something better?

                                  PS: I just came back from a birthday party, here it is 3:10am and I have drunk a bit more than usual, so don't be too hard on me
