Are these caps real or are fake LXY 1200uf@16volts

I bought these caps from a surplus supplier I would like to know if theses are real or fakes
If they are real I will share where I got them from

They look pretty legit to me. The sleeve looks nicely centered around the body, and the vent stamp is thin & clean.
According to the datasheet and its proportions, i guess that's the 10x30mm can version.

According to that, the one in the photo would seem to be from the 4th of october 2006(?)

IMHO, 100 for $10 is a great buy assuming they are real. Some may feel differently about 10 year olds caps though.

Most of the stuff I fix today is other people's discarded items. As such, I have no idea what the past operating history is so I try to fix as cheaply as possible, but still do a competent job.

If an item I bought new died, then I would go to digikey/mouser and spend the extra few $$$ to ensure fresh and genuine caps.

PS. You can never have enough of these 1000uF/16V caps around. Many power supplies seem to use 12V. You could even use these 1200/16V on a 5V rail.

Personally, i trust 10-15yo japanese caps waaaaaaaay more than brand new CapXons or Fuhjyyus

So, sam_sam_sam, what about the big reveal?

Might want to have a look at the bung too.
Doing a Google image search for that capacitor I see there appear to exist some really well made fakes of it.
But I do agree that yours looks genuine.

Yeah look real enough. Its obsolete series but for old electronics its OK. Besides having poor capacity per volume ratio, they have reasonable life and ESR/current ratings.

I have much superior Chemi-Con KYB 1500/16 with close to double the capacity per volume (1500 uF in just D10x20 mm can), double the life (10000 hours), lower ESR (0.037) and higher current (1650 mA) for about 20 bucks/100 pcs.

You can forget right now about all those overpriced big-ass resellers…

KYB is indeed an excellent value for the price and for its miniaturized can size and specs. I suppose it would depend upon the application, or how old the device being repaired is in any case. Very old PSUs for an example may be designed for higher ESR caps (closer to LXY), but for more recent PSUs, KYB would be a no-brainer. LXY does have better low-temperature characteristics as far as capacitance and ESR goes (and is rated for double the shelf life that KYB is), but I doubt many PSUs would run their caps at -10°C and if one is running their PSU 24/7 none of that matters (and KYB are high quality caps so the difference between them insofar as shelf life applies may be marginal at best).

The difference is just 0.007 ohm or less than 19 % so actually it should be quite OK. And it comes with higher capacity the circuit shoudl handle that.

That's why I take the KYB here over KZN, KZM etc. For D10 16V+ the life is already 10000 hours but the ESR is not so low as for same capacity/size KZN or KZM.

The LXY/LXZ are indeed better for very low temps, but as noted, hardly anybody uses that.

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                                Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...

                                Gigabyte GA-6OXT :: caps question
                                by Foetuss
                                Good evening

I recently aquired a rev 1.1 Gigabyte 60XT, and was suprised of the amount of leaking caps for a motherboard of the P3 era. Especially the way the 330µf caps seems like the housing discolored even.
Now, there are some 3300µF 6.3V KZG series around the CPU. Would it be OK to replace them with something like EEUFR1A332 ? (Panasonic FR 3300µF 10V). Or was this board designed around very low ESR caps?

But I was also suprised about the bigger boys, which are 330µF 25V.
Could it be they used 25V caps because they were cheaper / available at that time?...
