Good day folks. Having acquired a shelf full of defective computer power supplies in the shop, I decided to try my hand at fixing some of the more "stubborn" of them which don't have any visible signs of failure and I was wondering if someone can provide an in-depth guide on troubleshooting ATX power supplies. I'm talking about identifying the more complex defects that are hard to track down, particularly in the control side in the secondary. I'm not talking about blown primaries, bulged caps, all that "generic" jazz - I'm talking about "power supply looks fine but doesn't turn on". I don't care so much about the supplies themselves, since they're old hunks of junk really with relatively low power ratings, but I'm definitely willing to improve my skills. One of them for instance powers on very briefly when I pull PS-ON to ground and that's about it. It did have bad caps in it, but even after replacing them it still wouldn't turn on. I could go in-depth about the measurements I took, but I won't do that here.
Any good sources on troubleshooting ATX power supplies ?

by eigmaHi, I rescued a Samsung UN40H5003AF (H = 2014 FHD) from the curb. Symptoms are: standby (red) light comes on, stays on for 8 seconds, flickers off, then comes back on, and the cycle continues.
Service manual: https://www.electronica-pt.com/esque...is-u8la-71272/
SMPS board: checked voltages, all seem normal (A13V = 12.8V, UD = 3.3V, PWM_BLU = 0.77V, PS_OnOff = 5.5V). Remove 10p cable to main board -> backlight comes on. I think this means SMPS board and backlight are good.

by AwsmessymailHello all,
I’ve tried to repair TVs in the past with some luck. Toms repair manuals got taken down and now thats a bit harder.
I picked this TV up hoping for a quick fix. When the TV would power on, only the backlights would come on. The owner told me they heard loud screeching before it shut off. This alone makes me want to think the main board has an issue.
As I researched, I found the TCON/driver boards were an issue on this unit. I went in troubleshooting the TCON but found good voltages on the TCON. I followed shop jimmys guide to test the transistors and they seem okay....5 Photos -
by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.
