I believe it might have been one of these, though I'm not sure...

I've seen a lot of other people here recommend this particular PSU, so it's probably it.

that's the one. the ever infamous ac-bel 550w

they weigh a ton but they are nice... proud owner of one and was going to buy another but came into a couple units that i fixed up.

biggest pain is that they have OST and other crap brands in oddball sizes... but it is built like a tank.

        Hi momaka,

Thanks for the ac-bel 550wPSU info and link!

Question: Am a firm believer in Murphy's Law so what will kill the ac-bel 550wPSU?

Any suggestions or links to info about "fixing up" PSUs? Have some old ones but do not know if worth while? May be a learning experience anyway?

          Thanks

Re: Recommend a PSU for Benchtesting Motherboards

the one unit needed recapped and the other will need new caps and some reworking of the 5vsb circuit.

sorry, but i do not have any one worth fixing that i do not have plans for.

what could break the 550? the caps... otherwise it would take some pretty heavy things to bust it.

Fire. Water... a combination of both?
Other than that, I doubt you can kill it with computer hardware - it has all of the necessary protections. Perhaps if you put it in a very hot case with no ventilation, then the capacitors might go bad (but that's applicable to any power supply).

In short, this is a nice power supply and I don't think you will have any problems with it.

Just start a new thread and post some pictures of the power supplies in question. Many people here can tell you which ones are worth something and what can be done to improve them.

                Hi momaka,

Did as you recommended "Just start a new thread and post some pictures of the power supplies in question. Many people here can tell you which ones are worth something and what can be done to improve them."

As previously mentioned have an old Gateway NS-7000 server and checked the PSU. It is an AOpen FSP300-60BT. The new thread is
                https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15093

Am guessing that it may be best to check all the caps because when searched concerning AOpen FSP300-60BT found "This could be a great psu, but fuhjyyu and jamicon capacitors ruin it all."
                https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthr...en+FSP300-60BT

                Any comments or suggestions welcome!

                Thanks

Testing ATX PSUs under load - Does loading the ATX 24 pin also load EPS & PCIE?
                  by AJ847.63e
                  Hi Folks,

Just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding of mine (or what I expect is one). Isn't the 12V rail from the 24 pin, EPS and PCIE separated? IE if I put a power resistor on the ATX 12V pin that is not going to load, thus tell me if the EPS or PCIE rails are fine?

I was recently watching ArIs from Hardware Busters video on how to properly test ATX PSUs without using 5 figure Croma substations.

The PCB adapter he used breaks out the 12, 5 and 3.3V pins from the 24 pin and gives you banana plugs to connect to. That is a bit useless is it not? Aren't...

                  by qwerty99
                  Hello!

I need to change the capacitors on my three original Xboxes.

Two of them are 1.6B revisions and have Hynix RAM, and the other one is a 1.6 with Samsung RAM.

The 1.6 has the infamous Nichicon HM capacitors around the CPU, which have all bulged and started to leak. This Xbox no longer powers on.

The 1.6B revisions have Rubycon MBZ capacitors that all look fine, but I’ll change them in due course. Both of these work fine.

I’ve seen some excellent threads on the forum about replacing/upgrading capacitors, but I can’t...

Does anyone recognise what capacitor this might be? It's from a faulty 230V power extension with surge protection. Thanks in advance for any help!
