    Thermal Cutoff Resistor part

    Been reading on badcaps.net forums for a long time, this is my first thread though.

    I'm wondering if anybody here can help me find a component for a power supply board. It is a thermal cut-off with built in resistor. It reads "RCT051S 6R80JSMT". I've looked all over, but can't find a place online to order it in any reasonable quantity.

    I've attached the datasheet.

    Hmm, very interesting!

    What I would probably do is to get a regular ceramic/high-power resistor and attach a regular thermal fuse (trips on too high of a temperature) in series with it. The fuse would be adhered to the resistor in some way or another, so it will blow when the resistor gets too hot.

    I'm not sure how important it is, but it might be entirely possible to just use a regular resistor. Though this may cause a fire hazard.

    Trouble is ... did you check for short circuits?

    I looked up online just briefly, and I see KOA speer has some thermal fused resistors as well. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a distributor who has them. I wonder if they'd be willing to give you some directly (not through a distributor or large quantity order).

    P.S.2. Looking at the datasheet, the fused resistor you have has a nominal operating temperature of 152C, and a 10A rating. It's continuous rated power dissipation is 1.8W. The resistor part should be 6.8 ohms.

        Thanks much guys for the quick replies. Yeah, I was hoping to find those KOA parts, but I couldn't find a distributor either.

        I just ordered the ones listed on mouser.com. I'll give it a shot. This is for a friend's TV who had it mounted above a fireplace. I suspect that is directly leading to the overheating issue that is blowing this thermal cutoff resistor. I checked for shorts and everything seems good otherwise.

        I'll update when I get the parts. Thanks again.

          I always shake my head when I see a TV mounted super close to a wall directly above a fireplace.

            I should take a pic of ours ... it's above the fireplace as well!
            And it's been going for about 7 or 8 years now (I fixed it once).
            Then again ... we very very rarely have fires in the fireplace. :P

              I just wanted to follow up about the thermal resistor part. I ended up installing the one from mouser https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...36191f2f78.pdf. I tested the TV extensively in my house for a couple weeks and had no issues. I sent it back to my friend, so we'll see how it does above the fireplace again. He didn't want to move the TV so I installed a little fan to hopefully keep things running cooler.

              Anyway, thanks guys for helping me find a compatible part!
