65 Watt Fluorescent Yard Light had a mishap

I came home last night and the Fluorescent tube was only lighting on one end and not the other end what happen here---------->

I found one film cap that had spilled it guts out one end of the cap this is not a good site to see

The marking on the cap is 104k the cap that the mishap
Of course this cap had no reading at all
The other cap marked .1uf this cap reads .1uf with an ESR of 17

I had an another board from the same model yard lamp with same board number that too many mosfet mishap that I take parts off of

The same value cap had a ESR reading of 15
but the 68uf@400 volt cap the ESR value was real bad compared to the other cap on the other board

One note you see where is says 240 volts AC if you run it at that voltage it might last 4 months before it fries the mosfets
I run it at 120 volts instead and do not have the trouble with the mosfets shorting out and tripping 3 amp breaker that I put inside the lamp

This unit goes in a 175 watt mercury vapor Yard light I use in the same fixture but took out the transformer that boost the voltage up to the voltage to fire the mercury vapor lamp

Re: 65 Watt Fluorescent Yard Light had a mishap

I've had a number of electronic fluorescent ballasts fail on us, two of them with a bang.
Upon opening, most of the film capacitors were found to be discoloured, meaning that they have had a hard life.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

60 watt LED Yard Light with 12 volt Boost Convertor
      by sam_sam_sam
I bought this 60 watt LED Yard Light about month ago
I want it to run off batteries

With the boost controller set at 39 volts @ 1.5 amps the LED Yard Light is not quite as bright as it would be with the power supply that came with it but this is alright if I were to set it for the same exact light output the amperage would be about 2.5 amps the batteries would not last very long on a charge or I would have a lot bigger battery pack

I going to use some 5 amp hour batteries for this yard light that I had bought about year for this project li-ion batteries pouch...

Lithonia Lighting versus Light of America Compact Fluorescent product quality
      by sam_sam_sam
I have a Lithonia Lighting 65-Watt Gray Hardwired Compact Fluorescent

I also have back when Light of America had these light bulbs available for yard lights

The issue with Light of America was the blast boards had all most certain board failure while bulbs hardly ever fail

While the Lithonia lighting fixture has all most certain bulb failure

So I have modified the Lithonia lighting fixture to accept the Light of America light bulb and see how long this will last

I have only had this light fixture for not more than a year if it...

Trip light 2400 watt line conditioner bought used issue with low voltage oscillation going on between relays
      by sam_sam_sam
I found two capacitors on the board and one of the leads on one capacitor had bad soldering joint and the other joint connections not much better and there were several soldering joints that way to much flux around the joint redid several of them

The capacitors were a non brand that I did not recognize they got replaced and now it does not oscillating between relay but what concerns me a little bit is when the voltage is a little bit low the output voltage is around 130 volts and then drops down to 115 volts this happens around 105 to 108 volts if remember correctly

      Now...

I have a LED 80 watt yard light with a sold state circuit board bad capacitors
      by sam_sam_sam
This light got to where it would turn on when it felt like it ( photo cell controller board issue )

It has one 47uf@50 volts and one 10uf@50 volts double rating on the ESR reading ( non brand name capacitors )

Now every time I cover the photo cell and remove cover it turns on and turns off like it should

I will try to take a picture of the little board before I put it back together
