    Enermax MODU82+ 525W HW killer?

I got this unit from a customer to check if there is something wrong with it…there was some suspicious amount of dead HW around it. Motherboard died, than cosely after it hard drive and than SSD which has been added some time later.

It may very well be just coincidence, both HDD and MB were old. And the SSD was not used much for a few years and than all of sudden regular use has ben applied on it so it may have had some problem no one noticed before.

The thing is, I just hooked about 450 watts on it, everything is fine. Voltages are OK, ripple is great. No strange voltages on casing etc. I would just stick Q.C. passed on it and call it a day So is that just a coincidende? Or maybe loose wires in wall or something like that?

What kind of components did he use?

have you tested the PSU with some random transients??

Nope, do you think it may be the problem? This platform was very good by its time, I don't think something may go bad just like this…

sounds like mobo went bad. a bad mobo will destroy anything connected to it

Depends on how modern the components he used were.

With modern components you'll get a lot of ripple due to the heavy load changes from them. When the PSU isn't designed for that, that may damage other components.

Well, take a look at the pictures here (don't mind the text )

That's how modern GPUs consume power. AMD since Hawaii, with nVidia I'm not sure, but I think it was the 600 series that introduced this kind of power consumption...

I think this is what makes for example Seasonic units make noises but I don't think it's going to kill anything. Definitelly this may be shortening life a little bit, but not killing the components after 5 years of use…it is somewhat older HW, not GTx 600.

The HW is P5Q-E Deluxe, HD 4850 - these are dropping like flies.
