    Delta DPS-275BB-1 A Rev 04 server PSU

Hello, I got this nice old server with Delta DPS-275BB-1 A Rev 04 server PSU.

The PSU was pulled from working Pentium II 350Mhz computer.

Started to test caps as to keep the PSU for other tasks like mini-itx etc.
I have the ESR70+ meter. But I'm just new to measuring caps so I'm not sure how to interpret the measurements here.

Manuals of Atlas ESR70 meter and then Anatek BlueESR, two most respectable (and expensive) meters, you will see that their recommended capacitor ESR values are very different.

(blue esr 1.6ohms) and (atlas 16ohms) seems like a typo in the manual doesn't it?
(blue esr 0.6uhms) and (atlas 2ohms) more than 2x difference.

So what chart is better? Caps are caps and there should be agreement what is considered low enough ESR for a cap to work properly.

These tables both seems like nonsense then, one of them is wrong.
If there is no baseline what caps are low enough ESR then what are we measuring again?

If capacitors are advancing and new caps have lower ESR, then respectable measurement equipment manufacturer should give tables by year. Usually on every equipment there is a sticker with model number and year, else you can just google the thing.

Anatek and Peaktek are not respectable measurement equipment manufacturer then, no such tables are provided.

But then what about the Agilent, Fluke etc.

the tables on the testers are bullshit.

caps are very wide ranging depending on series.
you need to look at the datasheet for the cap your testing.

      Thank you for the link!
I cant find Rubycon YXB series there, any other links I should know about?

Thank you very much, I will post a list of what I measure shortly.
The measurements will be in-circuit, I wonder if thats correct way to do it as I read various things, and some caps really change ESR value (increase) if measured unsoldered. I do keep them for 5 minutes to cool down after I remove them.

Like I said I would like to hear you ideas about this

Here is my cap test results:

Will unsolder caps 9,13,17 to re-check them later.
Your knowledge are they bad is welcome.

Now I oredered some 3x8x4 bearings for the Nidec Beta SL fan that is used in this PSU.

they must be room temperature, the temp directly effects the esr readings.

also, you cant always get an acurate reading on the board because of other parts connected to the cap.
specially in a psu where you will have several caps in parallel.

Yes the cap in the table above is measured in room temperature.
I will re-measure suspect caps when I unsolder them.

Calculating ESR from tan delta -- tan delta's dependence on capacitance
                  by Junkrepair
I'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.

I found this nice little description of the conversion:

                  Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
                  https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...

Troubleshooting of redundant F750E-S0 Dell PowerEdge Server
                  by omega
                  Hello all,
as a beginner electronics hobbyist, after a few years I would like to place another post on this Forum section, given that I did not succeed in finding any useful advice among the other posts.

Over the last years, I have been using a PowerEdge Dell Server with two redundant PSUs, namely the 750W F750E-S0 ones (aka 06W2PW). Unfortunately, last summer one of them failed (perhaps owing to an overheating), and the server had for working to take into account the other one only. Of course I opened and tried to troubleshoot the failed PSU, but each cap I tested seemed to...
