Re: Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC
It might be easier to just add your own -5v rail to a power supply you already have.
Something like the MC34063 could be used to take some of that excess +5v and invert it to -5v. Only takes a handful of extra parts, and the datasheet has all the equations you need to figure out all the component values.
Alternatively, if the board just needs -5v present to POST, and not for anything else, you could take a PSU with a -12v rail (which is still most, I believe) and use a 7905 to linear regulate that down (or up?) to -5v. Not as efficient, nor as "fun" in a EE sense, but cheaper and easier than the 34063 by far.

Re: Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC
Well, OK. I'll be darned. No other motherboard in the world without ISA slots requires a -5V rail. (to ASUS for that one).

Re: Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC
Yes, I meant ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe, forgot to double check before I posted.
The P4C800-E may not have ISA slots but it requires a PSU with -5V as this has been mentioned by others who tried to use a PSU without -5VDC and the system just wouldn't even post.

Re: Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC
That board (P4C800-E) does not have ISA slots, so no, you do not need -5V. Any PSU will be fine.
EDIT: I probably could add that it would probably be best NOT to use a PSU with a -5V rail, simply because those that do have it usually have most of the current available on the +5V rail, while that board has the CPU powered by the +12V rail. Power supplies that have a decent amount of current on the +12V rail, rarely have a -5V rail.Last edited by c_hegge; 09-15-2014, 03:05 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC
As for the power supply, I have several that would work for you (has the -5vdc). I would be willing to sell you one just send me a PM (private message) on your price range and I will send you a list.Leave a comment:

Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC
I am in need of a replacement power supply with -5VDC which seems to be needed for the ASUS P4C400-E motherboard as mentioned by others on the internet, anyone know a good way to find one as I have tried Best Buy and they all do not have the -5VDC. Thanks!Tags: None

by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... -
Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by sam_sam_samI have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails
I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time... -
by r2digitalI have a klipsch kda-500 that would turn on and allow me to get into the web management but it was picking up a lot of noise from audio sources so i decided to replace the smd caps on the power supply along with radial one. Some one was in here before me and they basically burned the bottom side of the traces off for the radial cap but i was able to repair it without any real problem. I thought i did a good job sourcing out replacement caps but apparently not and now i can't get the power supply to turn on it just constantly try's to keep turning on. Attached is a picture of the power supply before...2 Photos

by JimBanvilleThe sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...-
