I can confirm that and add it's not just ASUS. I had MSI and Gigabyte boards do that as well. I've yet to find out why.

I made a update. My technimax die. Not explote, simply he not turn on until 20 minutes when computer is off.

Now i have a mstech 750w modular. I know is not a good psu, and It not have 750w of course. But he works and freeze have dissappear. So the capacitators in the board are fine . The problem was the psu.

The new have old design,he not have dc conversión with límit watage un 3.3v line, It not have ,-5v .

I have only one little problem in the motherboard. One of the SATA plastic port. Go out the pins when a sata wire is connected. The port is fine and working. It can be paste to the motherboard?. What i should use to do that?.

it sounds like bad caps on the board like i said but u may also have a failing hard disk. check the hard disk for reallocated or pending sectors.

so its no surprise the combination of a crap psu plus crap caps on mobo cause all these weird issues on your board. if u wanna use a junk psu, fine. but u have to recap the board with quality caps like japcaps; if u wanna leave the junk ost caps on the board, fine. but u have to use a good quality japcap power supply or a good quality old school power supply recapped with japcaps.

Then what is exactly the problem with my board?, he have strage semi-freezes ocasionally.

Take in mind my low voltages.

With bios 1024, Ocasionally when boot, when it star windows xp after load all programs it freezes, but not freeze completely.

I mean, i can't open a program, it not respond to double click. Only one thing works the window of ctrl+alt+supr

From then i can swith off the pc from windows. But it take along 30 minutes to swith it off as is speed was 0,1 mhz. (but cpu load is marked as 0%).

Then i downgrade bios to 1023, until today it not repeat it.

But today after hours of use it, using at same time firefox and satellite tv card (progdvb) asus prob and occt it freeze. But tv card continue working. I can't open nothing new, firefox not work. But i can change the open programs with alt+tab and the programs works.

But this time i made a reset.(reset with button in pc case). After reset the pc not boot (black screen) without bios screen and hdd led on. No matter how many times i reset it using the button, it not boot.

But after i switch off/on the power button in the case(the case not the power supply switch). Pc back to normal state and it boot normal.

    :P

Kloner? that's crap, that's for sure, sometimes you can find decent power supplies in old pentium-4 era OEM computers, mostly FSP, delta or bestec (about 300-350 watt), if not have a look at ebay.

Any decent PSU from 2002-2006 will do the job, these units had strong 3.3/5v rails and about 14-18A on 12V line.

Hi guys i upload the thread to speak about power supply to these motherboard.

The needing of -5v line,In this notherboard is a urban legend i don't know why this thing was expanded years ago along with pci cards 2.3 incompatibilidad But there are in the begining and belive It to

I Have now a technisat power supply with no -5v line with it. The power supply is a crap power supply, But i can't change It. Because in reality the motherboard have a problem with the today psu standards

The problem is the motherboard need alot of A in 3.3v 5v and 5v line. Because all their logic work with it, except cpu fans, hdds cd rom etc..

Today modern psu can have 80 Plus certificación. High Japan codensers modular etc.. But at final the problem is they have very low power in the 3.3v and 5v line combines power. 110w 130w 150w. This kill the motherboard. And make It reset continusly or so. The cheap crappy chinese power supplies are made with cheap obsolete especificación. Deliverig more power in the old rails.that because cheap power supply works

I search and search powers supply with more power in 3.3v and 5v. But i not have very Lucky.

If they have 250w usually the have two 12v rails with is connected probably with pci-e 6 pin so you lost these raíl. As probably they akasa es600w 550 450. Maybe is possible buy and adapter pci-e 6 pin atx 4+4 pins and use these rail for cpu But i not try it. I only view It in eBay from a eeuu seller.

Other as tacen mars gaming 700w.(200w). Have poor elements inside.

Spire or lcpower ave very low wattage in the 12 raíl. Un fortunly.

If anyone know a good power supply(good quality) can work with the board please tell me, my technimax works, But the voltage are little outside of 5℅ in 3.3v 5v line some times.

Seems like the Rubycon ZLH or 16v 100uF caps would work. I noticed the spec sheet says 25uF, wouldn't 100uF be too much though?

Good design will have the caps installed as close to the IC, I always have the caps installed in my designs. That -12V feeding wire will be longer than 3 inch.

There is a cap on the other side of the blue wire, in the PSU, so I think that one will be enough…

You need to install small caps at both input and output so it will not oscillate, see the notes in the spec sheet.

Re: Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC

The -12 V rail has blue wire on the ATX connector. I also suggest some capacitor for the regulator output, something like 100 uF is more than enough. The regulator usually has pretty smooth output enough but just to be sure…

Re: Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC

Thanks budm as always! Am I correct that I only need to hook up to the input leg and then basically have the output going to where the white wire is on the ATX Motherboard power connector? The -5V should be no more than 0.3A as thats what my PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 450-ATX outputs according to the specs on the PSU casing so that number should be able to handle everything.

So the Corsair CX750m has -12V output (0.8A)

LM79xx series, see PDF for how to use it.
Do you know how much the current requirement for the -5V will be?

japlytic, that was basically what etnietering mentioned earlier but how exactly do you find the -12v rail and is there a tutorial somewhere showing how to do the connection for the circuit illiterate?

How about a 7905 negative regulator with its input connected to the -12V rail?

Re: Need a replacement power supply with -5VDC

I had tried a Corsair CX750m Power Supply which does not have a -5VDC rail and it appears to work fine for everything except the on-board Intel Pro1000/CT 1Gbps NIC is not working as it has two orange lights, I read someone said Wake-On LAN needs -5VDC to work properly so could this be the reason why it needs the -5VDC rail? At least ASUS shows the -5vdc in the manual:
    http://www.manualslib.com/manual/579...page=42#manual

Not sure if that is why the NIC is not working as it says device fails to start properly in Windows XP SP3.

etnietering, thanks for the info. I just realized the 2000/2001 PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 450ATX power supply that failed last week does have a Motorola MC7905CT in it.

I guess what I can also do is just buy a modern Power supply from a store that has a good return policy and try it and see what happens. Maybe that guy just bought a bad Power Supply or something. My question is, if the PSU comes with a 24 pin connector, will it still work fit the 20 pin mobo connector without using an adapter? Also, any brands and models out there that make PSUs at the same level as PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool or better? I see Corsair, EVGA, and Thermal Take at Best Buy but not sure which is good.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

    Assuming...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

klipsch kda-500 amplifier suitable power supply capacitor replacement ?
    by r2digital
I have a klipsch kda-500 that would turn on and allow me to get into the web management but it was picking up a lot of noise from audio sources so i decided to replace the smd caps on the power supply along with radial one. Some one was in here before me and they basically burned the bottom side of the traces off for the radial cap but i was able to repair it without any real problem. I thought i did a good job sourcing out replacement caps but apparently not and now i can't get the power supply to turn on it just constantly try's to keep turning on. Attached is a picture of the power supply before...

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
    by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...
