Naked Zippy psl-6700p. You'll wanna see this. Efficiency numbers too.

Because it is exceedingly difficult to find good pictures of zippy power supplies, and because the build quality is so breathtakingly beautiful, I decided to disrobe this Zippy and take sexy shots of all its glorious internals. Things to note. I won it new on ebay for 80 dollars shipped (nobody else bid, WTF). All UCC caps and the largest rubycon primary I have ever seen. Picture doesn't quite do it justice. Its a full inch in diameter. It is powering a single xeon 2000 on an intel se7501br2 and it is consuming just 2 watts more than a seasonic unit (even though the name plate says its a full ten percent less efficient. 70% vs 80%. 78 watts vs. 80 watts (idle, 1 hard drive)). I'm glad nobody else bid. I really hope this puts an end to the discussion of who makes the best power supplies

forgot to attached the nameplate photo. this is a 700 watt powersupply and is the server version as opposed to the workstation version which is psl-6701p.

Amen to Zippy. They're my favorite PSU. I have never seen one fail. I'll have to post some of mine after being washed of 5 years of dust.

I have 2 sets of redundants for my servers.

        Very decent piece of stuff.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

I just bought one of these on ebay... Should I take it apart when I get it to see if it has the same stuff in it?

Also, does anyone know where I can find one of those relays that mounts in an expansion slot for allowing your monitor and other stuff to come on with the PC? My current PSU has an accessory outlet, but this Zippy does not.

My current PSU has an accessory outlet, but this Zippy does not.
The P/S industry was moving away from including the accessory outlet in the 1999-2000 timeframe. The belief was that the extra function didn't justify the extra cost. The accessory outlet and monitor power cord also made complying with radiated noise regs more difficult. OTOH, during the same time-frame Apple insisted on keeping the accessory outlet. While mid-tower Apple P/Ss from that era look, superficially, like ATX P/Ss with extra long O/P harnesses, Apple didn't use a -5V O/P, and that pin was used for an extra +3.3V wire.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

The PSU I'm using actually has a standard 3 prong outlet on it, not the funky IBM PC style "monitor" jack. But then I paid about $150 for it when I bought it. I'm only replacing it because I want to recap it and use it for another system. It is a Vantec 520W full of Fuhjyyu caps

I got the Zippy on Ebay for $79 shipped, probably from the same seller that the first poster of this thread got it from. Since I was going to pay around $100 for a Seasonic built unit, I figured what the hell

The only PSU I've had that even looks close to the inside of the Zippy, is the Newton Power unit in one of my old Dell servers. Lot of big heatsinks

Heavy metal in P/Ss is goodness.

Just got one of these monsters. It barely fit in my case; it's almost touching the DVD drives. I'd say it weighs almost 10lbs The power switch on the back is much bigger than usual too. Wish I could find some more for cheap.

Anyone know what kind of fan it uses? I know it moves quite a bit of air.

Now THAT'S a power supply! The internals are just gorgeous...none of this flashy blingy glowy crap, just pure high-quality electronics. That's how a power supply should be built right there! Can we say "uptime" boys and girls?

B3Nut... As in a Hammond B3 organ? Just curious... I sold mine today and watched as the truck taking it away dissapeared down the road. I'm going to miss it

Yup, I'm a B-3 player. I can see missing it...I could never part with mine. I'd be one sad puppy. I've got a beat-up old B-2 also, plus an L-100 a friend gave me and an M-102 I rescued from the curb, I couldn't see an old tone-wheel Hammond meet doom in the jaws of a garbage truck crusher...

Ya I hated to sell it but I was desperate for money to pay the bills...

At least I still have my T-233 from when I was a kid. My Great Grandma bought it new in 1968 and it's still going strong. I was upset when one of the front legs got busted off while moving it upstairs a couple years ago.

I was also surprised that I was only able to get $3,300 for the B3 and 2 speed 21H Leslie, I paid $5,900 for it back in 2002. It still costs $25,000 to buy a new digital B3 so I figured it would hold it's value some. And it was one of the better 1965 models with the thicker wires and good caps.
