    Drop-in replacement for STR-W6052S?

The main board of this LG washing and drying machine was damaged due to overvoltage. It is rated for 127V and was powered on 380V.

Inicial visual inspection revealed that only some components at the input of the SMPS were damaged:

Ironically, both fuses are intact. Probably the X2 cap and the bridge are also damaged. The whole board is immersed in an epoxy resin. I am removing it so I get access to the components.

The SMPS is built around an STR-W6052S, which is discontinued and I can't get a replacement. Also did not find a clear drop-in replacement. I wrote to Sanken but still didn't hear back from them. Since this is a somewhat common converter IC, I'd like to know if someone has had any related experience and can suggest a drop-in replacement.

The SMPS controller is a STRW6052S. These were the best light incidences on the markings I got

probably utsource, AliExpress, etc have these STR-W6xxxS by the bag. These STR-W6xxxS series almost look like the TOP2xxYN series.

Thanks for chiming in. Yes, the TOP2xxYN series do like like the STRs, and Sanken suggests STR3A453D as a replacement. However, they only come in DIP-8 and I haven't checked the datasheet thoroughly if they perform the same.

About utsource, min qty is 20.

AliExpress, etc, you are right, they are all over the place, but just as ebay, I don't trust them. This IC became obsolete for a few years now, and they are simple to design, so I believe there are a lot of counterfeits around. Main issue with those is that they generally work, but for a very limited amount of time, and quite often cause damage to other components when they decide to stop behaving as they should. Ask me how I know..... 😅

For a few $$$ try it first. This design switcher in that package is problematic from the get go.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
            by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
            by the_rem
            Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
            by ezenia
            Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...

ASUS Rog Strix G17-712LV Laptop Liquid damaged
            by XxMicroSoldering
            Hello Guys

I have a ASUS Rog strix laptop that I bought recently to fix and the previous owner spilled water on it . He brought it into a repair shop for them to check it out and instead of fixing it they damaged the battery connector of the laptop ! Other than that they damaged damaged nothing . But since the liquid damage the laptop only turns on and the keyboard lights up and then immediately turns off. I really want to repair this laptop and I also have experience in repairing phones etc and laptops and a bit of soldering but the diagnosing part is where I need help with and...

Macbook pro logic board replacement parts quesion
            by boosti45
i have a 2020 macbook pro 13" A2251 with 820-09149 logic board so i found an issue with chip labeled U6903 according to schem. boardview using flexBV software, so i removed it from the board and the issue im having is that the chip says "07A08FI ELC180" on top of it but when searching for a replacement chip, i can find tons of identical looking chips that also have "ELC180" printed on them but the first set of digits is never the same so im trying to find out if i need this exact chip with these same numbers as mine and if not which ones are compatible as a replacement?...
