Personally, I have a neighbor I trust that I leave a door key with if I'll be away for a while in case something happens and access inside is needed, or to water plants, feed a pet, etc. If I had your concern I could just call and ask them to unplug my PC.

I don't mean to suggest this resolves the topic being discussed, only that having people you trust know you're away and giving them access can have its benefits.

I have - a few times, and yes, they were from bad caps. I've seen a few seasonic Earthwatts get bad OSTs and a Delta made EA-500D with bad LTECs.

As I always say, using bad caps saves 50c in the cost. If they really need that extra 50c, I'll happily pay 50c more for the product. Therefore, bad caps should NEVER under any circumstances be used in any device, end of story.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

I've seen them periodically throughout the web but have never had one fail personally. I might just be lucky, but the failures that do occur seem to be at a much lower rate than the old CWT units with Fuhjyyu caps. I can't say there is any mainstream brand that I have never heard of a failure from especially in budget models, but this is not much of an issue so long as the failure rate is low over the average life of the PSU and there is sufficient protection circuitry to prevent damage to other components when the PSU does fail.

I'll definitely agree with that. It has appeared to have gotten better. 10 years ago even top of the line PSUs often came with mediocre caps and low-end models came with absolute junk, now most high end PSUs from decent manufactures have Japanese caps and entry to mid level models from decent manufactures have at least mediocre Taiwanese caps (Teapo, OST, Ltec, etc.), while these may not be the most reliable they are much better than the Fuhjyyu, Elite, G-luxon, CapXon, etc. caps that were once common in such units (there are exceptions such as FSP still using CapXons in allot of their units).

Macbook Air M2 A2681 Kernel panics after screen replacement
          by reformatt
Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".

It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
          by the_rem
          Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
          by ezenia
          Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...

Macbook pro logic board replacement parts quesion
          by boosti45
i have a 2020 macbook pro 13" A2251 with 820-09149 logic board so i found an issue with chip labeled U6903 according to schem. boardview using flexBV software, so i removed it from the board and the issue im having is that the chip says "07A08FI ELC180" on top of it but when searching for a replacement chip, i can find tons of identical looking chips that also have "ELC180" printed on them but the first set of digits is never the same so im trying to find out if i need this exact chip with these same numbers as mine and if not which ones are compatible as a replacement?...

klipsch kda-500 amplifier suitable power supply capacitor replacement ?
          by r2digital
I have a klipsch kda-500 that would turn on and allow me to get into the web management but it was picking up a lot of noise from audio sources so i decided to replace the smd caps on the power supply along with radial one. Some one was in here before me and they basically burned the bottom side of the traces off for the radial cap but i was able to repair it without any real problem. I thought i did a good job sourcing out replacement caps but apparently not and now i can't get the power supply to turn on it just constantly try's to keep turning on. Attached is a picture of the power supply before...
