New ATX for old computer: 20 pin, no SATA

The PC Power & Cooling 300 ATX PS on a computer at work died. I had an equally ancient spare laying around, and that is what it is using for now, but I want to buy a new one so that I can get my spare back.

Problem is, I'm having a really hard time finding a similar power supply that isn't no name junk. The dead one has a pretty standard configuration for an 8 year old PS, but the better manufacturers just don't seem to make them like that any more.

The current one has these specs:

    300W (nominal), single 80mm fan next to power cord plug, +5V@30A, +12V@12A, -5V@0.3A, -12V@0.8A, +3.3V@14A, +5VSB@2.0A

    1 20 pin mobo connecter
    1 4 pin mobo connector
    6 4 pin Molex connectors
    2 Floppy connectors
(and that's it - no SATA or anything else. If I remember correctly it uses both mobo connectors, 3 of the molex, and one of the floppy connectors.)

    Suggestions?

    Thanks.

How about an Antec 380W? price of shipping!

The Antec Basiq 350 might work. It has the needed 4 pin ATX12V connector:

The EA380D, does not have that 4 pin connector. Instead it has some odd 4+4 connector I have never seen before. Even if it has the right voltages it might not fit:

Just split the 4+4 pin and it will fit. The 8 pin is basically just two 4 pin connectors side by side and is used on lots of modern boards. The 380D is a MUCH better PSU than the Basiq, so if you can get one for the price of shipping, I wouldn't even consider the basiq.

I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

That's a winning argument. It doesn't look like there is room to leave half the EPS12V hanging off the side of the ATX12V socket, and I don't want to modify this PS in any way, so splitting the EPS12V is out. We will use an adapter cable to plug that part in.

            Thanks.

It is designed to be split that's why it is labeled as a 4 + 4 pin. The connector is just held together by plastic tabs (same as a 6/8 pin PCI-Express connector).

When we opened the box it was already split. There was no flashing or other signs that the two pieces were ever attached.

Why don't you try to fix the PCP&C PSU?

                      by DynaxSC
                      Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...

So I was randomly browsing on eBay (as always) and saw a listing for supposedly the same “775 Watt” PSU with starting bid at $1. Description stated “for part or repair”, with the owner/seller mentioning the PSU had blown/shorted. Surely I could spend a few $$ more and get the same PSU as dmill89 right from Amazon brand new and (probably) working… but where is the fun in that?!

So I got this one instead...

Need help to solve some problems with this laptop.

After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)

Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)

Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them...

Crimping CAT7 connectors high failure rates
                      by CapLeaker
I’ve had and got a few projects using quality CAT6 and CAT7 23awg solid copper, shielded, direct burial cable. Each time I use CAT7 connectors, most of them fail making good connections to the 4 wire pairs after crimping. I tied a couple of crimping tools, thinking my crimper is bad. Also used different CAT7 RJ45 connector manufacturers. Same thing. I kinda calculate 6 connectors to make one cable!
Get this: I use CAT5 or CAT6 connectors, no problem. Very rare I have a miss crimp with those. So what gives?! ...
