Dell VOSTRO 320 failed power supply

This is one lousy design when it is time to repair, have to take apart lots of pieces if you need to replace RAMS, Hard drive, power supply.
The power 19V power supply had failed due to blown up snubber cap for the MOSFET which should have been using much higher voltage cap. The main DC filter is also bad.

Re: Dell VOSTRO 320 failed power supply

Huh, my workplace uses these Vostro 320's everywhere, I wonder how long til I start seeing them dropping like flies.

What were the symptoms of the failure? Did it boot but was unstable?

And typical Ltec primary capacitors failing... they don't last, period.

Re: Dell VOSTRO 320 failed power supply

No 19VDC output from the power supply, so the computer is dead. It took me longer to take it apart than It took me to fix the power supply. Power supply failure in this computer is very common.
You can easily use external 19VDC 6~7A power supply to run it. That is what I did to find out if anything else is bad in the computer.
