    Antec truepower tpq 850w problem?

this was in my brothers computer, he said he heard a pop sound, followed by smoke and a bad smell..
he found a burnt transistor on his motherboard.

not sure which part was the cause or effect, psu, or motherboard.
so he gave it to me because i have recapped a number of powersupplies in the past and he didnt want to risk loosing another motherboard.

none of the caps appear to be bad, i see no buldging.
i think i am going to have to unsolder some wires to get the main board out so i can give it a good inspection for bad parts.

when its plugged into a outlet it gives off a faint squeel sound. this is without any computer connected.
i havent tried it with a motherboard for fear of killing it.

if i jump the green power connection pin to ground, the fan starts up.

with my multimeter im getting the correct voltages.
    12+ 12.1v
    5+ 5.1v
    3.3+ 3.3v
    12- -12v blue
    5+ 5v purple
    ? 5+ grey
this psu doesn't have a white wire for -5v

should i just go ahead and try this motheboard on a older computer? or is there a better way to approach this?

Hi - there are a number of articles on the net regarding this PSU whining.
    This is one: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1452928

Voltages seem ok if steady I suppose you could make a load with high wattage
automotive bulbs - cheaper than a motherboard.

I believe you can also test for excessive ripple by testing the output with your meter on AC instead of DC but I dont know enough to know what the results would mean - You could do the test and post the results and someone with
experience of PSUs might be able to advise.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

I don't suppose that it was connected to an older model nVidia video card was is? I have a TPQ-850 on my main rig and they are an excellent PSU (Built on a high-end Enhance platform), but they have a known compatibility issue with certain older nVidia cards that can lead to failure (I believe this was determined to be the fault of the video card and not the PSU itself). I've been running mine with an ATI Radeon HD5870 and have yet to have any issues with it.

after testing I think the psu is fine. got a spare computer out of the closet, and it ran just fine.. assuming the motherboard that it was on was the issue. used the multimeter while it was running and the voltages were still the same as above..

        thanks guys!

Problem with motherboard Gigabyte X570S Aero G - no detect RAM
          by iT0mT0m
          Hi,

I have problem with detection RAM on this motherboard. When I install CPU(Ryzen 5 2600, 5 4500 or 5 5600G) DRAM Led is lighting all the time. I tried reflash various verion of bios using Q-Flash method and that not resolve my problem. I tried reflash bios by SVOD 4 but that not resolve problem too. All voltages is correct and I don't see any low resistance on coils and other elements on motherboard. I tried replace memory to other and nothing. I don't know where is a problem(maybe connections between cpu and rams socket?). Actually I have boardview for this motherboard and I have...

Embedded Controller issues, living an absolute H*LL with my ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED

I've been dealing with so many complications for months, trying to find and then fix the root cause of the issue I really need help and I have to solve this on my own (Going to Asus headquarters isn't an option for me. First, because I'm very stubborn and want to insist that I can fix this sort-of-myself somehow, and second, the location is too far away for me anyway).

Right now I'm desperate trying to put an end to this nightmare, but OK, I'll do my best to be somewhat brief in explaining and relating the entire situation and context.

Legion 5 PRO, 3 boards, same problem, NM-D562 Rev. 3.0 motherboard
          by hopkok
Hi friends, last week I got 3 same boards for repair (NM-D562 Rev. 3.0), same problem, power button light up, but motherboard wont start.

3,3V_alw and 5V_alw, 1,8V_alw and 0,75V_alw presented on all 3 boards, no other voltages. 1,2V missing and if I checked schematic right, I need 1,2V and than can be +3VS and +5VS generated after getting SUSP_N signal from KBC? or vise versa?

I checked for low resistance on coils, no low resistance.

Anyone with same issue like me?

          Thanks for any help.
