Beginner looking for help diagnosing LA k092p motherboard problem

A very old client brought me a recently purchased notebook that suffered a lightning strike and stopped working, as in my region no one does plate repairs, he asked me to help him despite my little experience.

    Acer Aspire Vero notebook (n20c5)
    motherboard FH5AT LA k092p

The notebook turns on the motherboard LED but does not turn on the fans or even the video or any sign of life beyond that, I tested the power input, the power reaches the battery, I tested some components around the processor, some give 5.7v others give nothing and others are 19v, I haven't found a map of the motherboard that I can understand and read the voltages and draw my conclusions.

I come humbly through this topic to ask you ladies and gentlemen for help =D

The schematic is showing to be available on paid sites but my database does not contain it. Regardless, the designs are similar to others.

    1) Review the charger circuits article posted above by piernov. It is a must read.

    2) Respectively, review the location of the DCin power connector where the fun starts from the outside power adapter and should be ~19 volts. This 19 volts then travels through 2 * DCin mosfets to power the logic board. Nearby these DCin mosfets will be the charger IC which is often from Texas Instruments / BenchMarq and will be with a BQ topside marking. Locate this black square IC and share a clear picture or at least the top side markings. Also share the DCin mosfets which will be black in color and with 8 pins (4 on each side).

The N-channel mosfets (both) will be enabled by the charger IC using a boosted gate voltage of ~25 volts. Only then will the mosfets enable properly. Often one or both of these mosfets get killed and halt the party.

Being a lightning strike, something more severe may have happened with your friend's unit but give it a review.

PS: How is Brasil? Was there in 2000 and hired a helicopter (tourist pricing?) @ Sugarloaf. Could not believe how many steps there are to reach the top of the stairs. Cable ride was fun but should have AC.

      Motherboard diagnostic beginner advice
      by Mess
To save you some time: the most important bits are in bold.
Some further examples/explanations or to the side & in grey - you can probs skip them if it's TLDR for you. Sorry, I've got ADHD & tend to over-explain stuff - just like I'm doing right now 😅 Briefness is for poets not me 🙈

Please help!! 🎶I'm just a girl in a world that wants to scam me out of lots of money for any tech stuff/repairs 🎵 Seriously tho, I'm poor&I can't afford to get laptop diagnosis, especially if it ends up needing a new motherboard. Where I live, all the tech shops are run by very...

Beginner question. Did I find a short?? HP dax31mb1aa0 REV A motherboard
      by Mess

Hi beginner here, so I'm not sure of I've done this right 😅 trying to diagnose my laptop's motherboard (dax31mb1aa0 rev a). I don't quite know how to read the schematic, so I'm attaching the pictures of the motherboard and the measurements.

I was attempting to measure resistance to GND on inductors. I disconnected motherboard and used "continuity testing" setting on my multimeter. I put black probe to Ground & red probe on an inductor. Did I measure this right? Am I correct to think that 0.3 ohm measurement indicates a short circuit? Thank you for your help!...

ASUS Zephyrus GA401I Severe Lag, Suspect Motherboard/Power Issue - Need Help Diagnosing
      by MakNCheese
      Hi everyone,

I'm having a serious issue with my ASUS Zephyrus GA401I (4 years old, worked perfectly until recently). The system is lagging heavily, even in the BIOS, and is charging extremely slowly (a few percent in hours), making it nearly unusable. I suspect a motherboard or power delivery issue.

      Symptoms:
      • Severe lag across the system, including BIOS navigation.
      • Slow boot times and unresponsive performance in Windows.
      • Battery charges very slowly (e.g., ~5% in 2–3 hours).
      • No error messages or BSODs, just extreme sluggishness.

      What I've Tried:
      • Replaced

Scorching hot mosfets on Asus X555Q motherboard - can't find the cause
      by rddube
      Hello everyone,

I am reading temperatures above 105C (221F) on mosfets PQL8104 and PQL8103 and the board is operating fine until it goes above 105C and then it shuts down. Cpu is ok.

So can't figure it out. Attached is photo of motherboard, the schematic section showing the culprit mosfets and the whole motherboard schematic. I changed PL8101 thinking it may be bad, same results. I tested out of circuit caps PC8117 and PC8118 and they measure fine.

So I am at a loss to know what else to check to try and identify the source of the problem

      Any...

Need help diagnosing the NM-D471 REV 2.0 motherboard for a LENOVO laptop.
      by JJ8409
      Hello,
I need your help with an issue I'm encountering while diagnosing a NM-D471 REV 2.0 motherboard from a Lenovo laptop. The laptop won’t power on. I started by checking the power rails, including the main power line and the 3.3V and 5V rails.

I do have a proper 3.3V across the line, including at the chip responsible for managing 3.3V/5V—same goes for the 5V rail. I haven’t tried to simulate a power-on yet, since the main issue still needs to be resolved.

I have full access to the boardview, but I’m not sure what to check next to isolate the problem.
