    Current sensing and primary side transistor driver transformer

    In most PC power supplies around the early to mid 90s, they had separate current sensing and primary side transistor driver transformers. Most new PC power supplies use one transformer for current sensing and primary side transistor driving. I don't know how that would be possible (without the current sensing circuit being affected by the isolated primary side transistor driving pulses from the PWM controller)

    An example of such a unit is on http://www.technick.net/public/code/...=cir_ps_atx200
    My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

    Re: Current sensing and primary side transistor driver transformer

    Well, T2 in that circuit doesn't sense the primary current for current limit purposes. However, as you spotted, the primary current does flow through one of the windings. This is a half-bridge inverter, and the two transistors turn on in alternation. When the top transistor is turned on by the TL494, the windings of T2 are phased so that the flow of primary current induces an aiding (regenerative) current in the base winding for the top transistor. Then when the bottom transistor is turned on by the TL494, the flow of primary current induces an aiding current in the base winding for the bottom transistor. The ratios of the primary current winding to the two base windings are designed so that the base current is a set proportion of the emitter current. This drive scheme is called "proportional drive", and the designed proportion is called "forced beta". This lessens stress on the TL494 O/P drive circuits and ensures adequate base drive current under low-line conditions.

    Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

      Casing Power MPT-301 [PCB ATX9806b-p REV: A3]
      by momaka
      This one should make @Pentium4 smile (if he is still reading BCN forums) – I got a new old stock / open box Casing Power MPT-301 PSU on eBay for $4 total.

      Yes, it’s a very generic-looking box, but the manufacturer isn’t (at least not back in the days), which is…

      Macron Power Technology Co. LTD.

      Let’s look at the PSU itself.

      The shell/case also appears quite generic, like many “sold-with-the-PC-case” units. However, the shell is well-formed and has decent steel thickness. In terms of...

      HANNSG Hi221 -- 2 secs to black feat. CCFL flicker & "burn" marks on power board
      by ttmi100x
      Greetings everyone,

      I have a HANNSG Hi221 monitor that exhibits two seconds to black issues (backlight goes off, display is still on as confirmed by shining a flashlight on it) with some additional oddities...

      The monitor failed on me with a standard "2 seconds to black" some time ago prompting me to initially replace most of the electrolytic capacitors (some of them were bulging/leaking).
      Things kinda sorta worked for a night, then the problem returned along with some flickering and "buzzing" noises.

      Upon closer inspection...

      Is there any high current pouch battery that are size 60mmX80mm maximum thickness 21mm for a battery operated tab welder
      by sam_sam_sam
      I have a battery operated tab welder and the battery does not have enough current for the battery tab welder because after about 30 welded it does not have the same current output it voltage has gone down by at least 0.500 volts or maybe a more than that

      I can fit 21700 battery cells in the enclosure it is very tight fit for four of them that are 35 amp high current capacity 35X4=140 high current output this should work a lot better than what is installed right now

      I tested the battery cells there are installed right now and they are testing good with no issues that I...

      A1278 "OTHER High Side Current Sense (IO0R)"
      by hazem3636
      hi there

      this mac 820-3115 , soo slow and not booting i start using ASD please check attached photos

      i satrt with "Power Sensors: High Side"

      i found there is issue @ "OTHER High Side Current Sense (IO0R)"

      PP3V3_S0_HS_OTHER_ISNS = 3.3

      ISNS_HS_OTHER_N = 12.6
      ISNS_HS_OTHER_P = 12.6

      HS_OTHER_IOUT = 0
      so i removed R5419. and still same issue no short to ground at all clean board and i replaced U5410 with same issue no change...

      A Dead/DOA Gigabyte GP-P450b 450W ATX PSU
      by momaka
      More eBay specials: this time a Gigabyte GP-P450b 450W ATX PSU for $8 with free S&H. Listed “For part/not working”, as usual. Showed up in a beat up EVGA box without any padding… but that's understandable given the total price. PSU made it out fine without damage. It's a non-modular (yay!), pretty modern-day looking PSU with a black paint and all black cables (meh, not my favorite, but figure it's good to keep a few of these in case I do need one for a more modern PC build, just so my old gray boxes don't look too odd in there.)

      And a shot of the label:...
