I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!
No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

It came in... pics coming soon in another thread.
It will likely replace the ultra in my main rig due to what conenctors are and aren't there.sigpic

edit:
I found a review with IMHO better quality pics:
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/929
from what I saw it is a far better unit for may main rig:
- it is modular and happened to have all of the right connectors for the system (once I swap the SATA DVD burner for a PATA one, using an adapter for now)
-it is single rail, which is good since it is a non-PCIe system... many PSUs would have half the 12V where I couldn't use it w/o rewiring
The onluy issue is that the PSU hole in the case doesn't quite work... I will probably do a little dremel work to fix that.
Also, I can't get the fan to kick on... either I forgot to re-connect the fan wire or it really runs that cool/well.

the Blue PSU will still see use... I have plansLast edited by ratdude747; 05-16-2012, 03:52 PM.sigpic

Re: Ultra Xfinity 600w 5vsb mod
I opened up the unit and found that the heatsinks were hot and the fan was connected.
I used a bench PSU to test the fan... no issues there.
Looking at the PCB, I found that the transistor that drives the fan had some sketchy looking joints... I resoldered those
Not knowing how long it had run w/o the fan, I preemptively recapped it... I used a mix of Sanyo WG, samxon GD, and nichicon HM (it's what I had in stock).
After that, I closed up the PSU and jump-started the PSU outside the case. To my surprise, the fan spun up just fine. Once I re-installed it into my main rig, it fired right up, fan and all.
I wish I had taken the time to take some pics of the fixes... sorry about that.
Thanks Everell for another fix-me freebie... And don't worry, you transformer kit shipped today.sigpic

Re: Ultra Xfinity 600w 5vsb mod
That was a freebie from a computer shop......supposedly a bad one. I powered it up once and everything seemed to be functioning. Looking it over, I thought ..... looks like Ratdude written all over it. Having no computer to put it in,,,,,,I put it in a box and sent 600 "cool" watts your way. Hope you enjoyed my humor........the cool watts! Just didn't see the point in tossing it on the shelf just to be forgotten about. Sounds like you did a great job in going over it and fixing all the little problems. Enjoy!
Don't make ole blue jealous.....find a home for him too.........Old proverb say.........If you shoot at nothing, you will hit nothing (George Henry 10-14-11)Comment
