Are the guidelines for caps the same in ps as they are on mobos? I like to use Nichicon, and the PW series are suppose to be designed for switching ps, but would the lower esr HE or HM be better or should I stick with the PW?

From a design perspective, you need to know what actual ripple current the caps will be subjected to and pick the appropriate parts based on that and the desired life. From a service perspective, it would be ideal to learn what the specs of the part being replaced are, and pick an equal or better part. If you don't have the luxury of investing that much time, Nichcon's PW or HE, Panasonic's FC or FM, Rubycon's YXG, YXH, or ZL, or UCC's LXZ, KY, or KZE should give reasonably good (or better) service. For O/P caps, I'd steer clear of 2000-hour rated series such as HM, HN, HZ, KZG, etc. - they may do OK, but I tend to be cautious.PeteS in CA

Ideally use the same value; for practical purposes, the next step up should be OK:
1000uF --> 1200uF or 1500uF; 2200uF --> 2700uF; etc.
This is reference to O/P caps. Bumping up two steps, e.g. 470uF --> 680uF, or more with I/P caps is fine (you may improve 100Hz/120Hz ripple on the O/P voltages, brown-out, and drop-out performance somewhat). There are some used in some standby regulator circuits where you should use the same value.PeteS in CA

Pete, is it okay to replace 5V or 12V rails caps with 2 times of the initial value, like 1500uF to 3300uF? Does it have any disadvantage or whatsoever?
I see some PSU for server with >4000uF caps on secondary side, even 10000uF, like this one. I've been thinking odf replacing the caps on my Tt and HEC with some 4700uF or >6000uF ones.days are so short when you actually do something..

Lol Yanz, we are both on Badcaps and Overclockers right now! Speaking of power supplies, I have a new, light weight $19 with shipping ps, and the i/p caps are Rubycon(they look real!) and <BH> on the o/p. Does anyone have any history of Bor Hurng caps? Hong Kong company, and the PRS series that are in my ps are the only low esr 105c caps they make.

I've never heard about Bor Hurng caps. For cheap PSU to have Rubycon caps on the input is generous i think..
Btw, about primary caps (bulk caps), i found that usually the 85C version have higher ripple current and lower esr than the 105C version..days are so short when you actually do something..

Got a problem, I'm recapping a Seasonic power supply and I have 1 cap I can't match. It a OST 16v 2200uf 10mm cap.
The problem is any good cap with the value 16v 2200uf comes in 12.5 diameter. I got to have a 10mm because it's a tight place.
Can I use a 16v 1500uf 10mm or maybe a 10v 2200uf in it's place?
