    Fusable Resistor

    Hey,
    Wondering if anyone can help me figure this out. I am trying to repair a small 12v 1A power supply. When I was "messing" with it I inadvertantly blew the fuse on the input. The supply states its:

    120v/.45A Input
    12v/1A Output

    After I removed the fuse it looks more like a resistor but apparently its a fusable resistor??

    Please see the pics.
    2 pics of the device
    1 pic of where the device sits on the PCB, its first inline from the AC neutral

    To me its looks like the color codes are:
    White, Brown, Brown, Black, Green = 911 Ohms
    The body is grey which I found to mean its fire/flame resistant.

    From the research I have done so far 911 Ohms doesnt even look like an option for a fusable resistor but really I don't know.

    Anyone have any ideas where to find a replacement or what should I use as a replacement?

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: Fusable Resistor

    It says it right on the board 5.1R which is 5.1Ω Likely a 1 watt
    Green, Brown, Gold, Gold,
    White = fusible

      Re: Fusable Resistor

      Thank you!

      The 3rd Gold ring confused me. What does it mean?

      I get the Green = 5, Brown = 1, Gold = ??, Gold = x .1, White = Fusable

      Thanks again. Much appreciated.

        green=5
        brown=1
        gold#1= divide by 10
        gold#2= 5% tolerance
        white=fusible

          Re: Fusable Resistor

          Thank you.

          I was referencing a 5 band resistor color code chart which led to my confusion. The other confusing part for me is that the fusable resistor doesnt following the spacing of the bands that a normal resistor follows. Is there a fusable resistor color code chart? Or do we use the resistor color code chart but treat it like a 4 band resistor when the fifth band is white?

          Again thanks for everyone's help. It's very much appreciated.

            Thanks for pointing this out. It did not occur to me that it was the actual resistance value. All the other components on the PCB are numbered, R1, R2, R3... C1, C2, C3... etc. And now that I write this I realize that it said 5.1R not R5.1... Duh.

            You learn by your mistakes and I am learning today!

            Thanks for everyones patience with me.

              Dell 2209WA - power supply - Fusible Resistor replacement
              by jinu_j
              Hi

              I am trying to repair an ancient Dell 2209WA Monitor which suddenly shut off with a pop sound. On investigation found that one of the fusible resistors had blown. Further investigation identified multiple components as faulty because of which the fusible resistor blew. Please refer the attached circuit diagram showing the components that were found to be damaged.

              1. FR950 - blown fusible resistor - 0.2 Ohm 1W
              2. Q950 - shorted Q950 MOSFET - 650V 10A N Channel Mosfet
              3. R835 - Blown Resistor - 20KOhm SMD resistor
              4. D930 - Shorted Schottkey Diode...

              Need help to replace burned resistor in 350w atx psu
              by mikey5791
              Hi to all forum members,

              Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
              The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.

              Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
              Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor...
