HP ELITEBOOK X360 1040 G7 - "power-on authentication" problems.

A customer dropped off a HP ELITEBOOK X360 1040 G7 with a "power-on authentication" problem.

Customer says he didn't set this up. Neither password or fingerprint works.

I have tried flashing:

1) JBIOS1UH2
with:
a) RCUnlocker (by RethoricalCheese). Didn't do anything, beacause the chip is 32MB in size.
b) HPUnlocker (by mazzif). Made a small change (changed: "00 00 00 00" to "FF FF FF FF".
result: "power-on authentication" is still present.

2) UEC3
with:
a) RCUnlocker (by RethoricalCheese). Makes a big change (see the attached screenshot).
b) HPUnlocker (by mazzif). Made a small change. The change is similar to the change made to JBIOS1UH2. It changed 71x "FF"s to "00". Don't think I wrote thhis one back to the chip.
result: "power-on authentication" is still present.

There is another Winbond chip next to UEC3 designated UT9. The chip is a Winbond 25Q80DVIG. The 25Q80DVIG is a "3V 8M-BIT SERIAL FLASH MEMORY" chip. That means the chip is 1MB in size. Does anyone know what this chip is for? Is it worth it to dump it and run it through RCUnlocker/HPUnlocker?

Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to remove "power-on authentication"?

There's no complications in your case now, only Admin password, no additional password protected user(s) or Computrace, so you can use RCUnlocker with your 16MB dump only, leave the 32MB chip as is. At first boot reset bios settings to factory default save/apply, then reset security settings and you're good to go.

Hello everyone,

I would like to use this thread for some question about fixing the BIOS on a HP Elitebook x360 1040 G7 laptop.
At this moment I think that the only problem I have is similar to the one bojc had, my BIOS is admin locked.
There are 3 chips that I am eyeing at this moment:
25Q256JVEN (says BIOS next to it on the motherboard)
25Q80DVIG (says UT9 next to it on the motherboard)
25Q128JVPQ (says UEC3 next to it on the motherboard)

First thing I did is disconnect the battery from the motherboard and then I tried to read the data from these chips with CH341A and the additional clamp it came with.
I am quite sure that I've used the correct pins based on the datasheets, but I had no luck with reading these chips. From what I've been able to read on the web these clamps can be quite useless.

So now I've decided to try either soldering some wires to the chip pins or removing it from the board (i'd rather not since I do not have hot air station, only a portable soldering iron).

Could you please instruct me which chip is the correct one to flash with RCUnlocker to remove the admin password so I won't have to go through trial and error to find the one that has the 16MB program on it.
