HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba104na - 3 long and 5 short caps lock code.
I have a "HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba104na" in for repair. The caps lock flash 3 long and 5 short.
HP says this error means:
The red light blinks three times, and then five, short white light blinks (3 long red, 5 short white)
This condition indicates that the computer does not detect the processor (CPU).
Does this mean the CPU is dead or is there another cause for this fault?

HP ELITEBOOK X360 1040 G7 - "power-on authentication" problems.
HP ELITEBOOK X360 1040 G7 - "power-on authentication" problems.
A customer dropped off a HP ELITEBOOK X360 1040 G7 with a "power-on authentication" problem.
Customer says he didn't set this up. Neither password or fingerprint works.
I have tried flashing:
1) JBIOS1UH2
with:
a) RCUnlocker (by RethoricalCheese). Didn't do anything, beacause the chip is 32MB in size.
b) HPUnlocker (by mazzif). Made a small change (changed: "00 00 00 00" to "FF FF FF FF".
result: "power-on...

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen 1 - weird issues
I am trying to fix a "LENOVO THINKPAD X1 YOGA TYPE 20FQ / 20FR" laptop.
It's a 1st gen X1 Yoga and it has a couple of strange issues. I think they are related to either:
1) damaged ME region in the firmware/BIOS.
2) The version of the ME firmware is too old.
The two issues I am having are:
1) The laptop will shutdown, but fails to power off the laptop. If the laptop is forced powered off, then it can ONLY turned on again if:
a) The charger is disconnected.
b) The reset button is pressed.
c) The power button...

Re: HP 14-bf054sa - weird power button issue
Hi folks
I have repaired this motherboard.
*** This is a lesson for all of uses who fix motherboards, beginners and seasoned pros too.
The lesson:
Take detailed (clear & hi-res) photos before your start working on a motherboard. Take photos of not just the components/parts you are working on, but the area around it too.
The FIX:
"Simply" replace the missing components. See the attached photo. I was missing: 1x 100K 0402 resistor, 1x 110K 0402 resistor,...

Re: HP 14-bf054sa - weird power button issue
I presume so, I have checked the power button on continuity mode and the multimeter goes BEEEEP! (so I take it the "resistance goes to zero"?).
I will check tho....

HP 14-bf054sa - weird power button issue
- forum postHP 14-bf054sa
LA-F301P Rev 1.0
This laptop came in with a number of minor issues (Screen with black bar and battery that needs replacing). The laptop also had issues relating to salt (water/air) corrosion, having been used near the ocean.
The HDMI port, 2x usb ports and the SD card reader all needed replacement as they had been affected by salty air and only work intermittently. The HDMI port, 2x usb ports and the SD card reader have been replaced and have been checked for (obvious) shorts.
The laptop now fails to turn on (normally)....

Sony Vaio SVF153A1YM - Dead, No Power!
A customer brought in a Sony Vaio SVF153A1YM and said the problem was: "battery not charging (discharges when charger plugged in)".
I have plugged in the charger and there are not lights on the laptop. The laptop does not turn on either.
Diagnosis so far:
1) 19.5V on the pins 1-3 (source) of PQ35, but nothing on pins 5-8 (drain),
3) Changed PQ35, but still no power on the DRAIN pins.
4) Replaced PQ35.
5) Checked PQ2A and PQ2B (which is one chip) and pins 1 & 6 are connected (shorted?)

Lenovo Yoga 900-13ISK (NM-A411) - Fan spin, no display
Hi
A customer brought in a "Lenovo Yoga 900-13ISK (NM-A411)" as a dead laptop. I found water damage corrosion on the motherboard, which I cleaned with IPA; and now the laptop powers on.
The current problem is: Fan spin, no display.
I have the schematics for NM-A411 motherboard and have been investigating nets containing EDP_VDD_EN in the name.
The first IC in the relevant nets is PU4. PU4 supplies VIN to PU9. ViN = 8.7V (measured at PU4 pin 20 and PU9 pin 1 & 2).
I think PU9 is faulty. I measured the voltages on all...

ASUSPRO P2520LA - was: NO POWER, CHARGER OK. Now: multiple issues and won't power on.
Hi
Need some help trying to fix a ASUSPRO P2520LA.
Backstory:
-------------
This laptop was bought to me because it had been with another repair shop for 3 weeks; and they hadn't been able to fix it. He was fed up, so he brought his laptop to me.
The laptop came to me as NO POWER, CHARGER OK.
Story so far:
---------------
Straight away I would that the DC socket centre pin socket was damaged and, when tested, only around ~2V could be measured come from the DC socket. While I had the motherboard sitting...

Re: Toshiba 40l1333b (SSL400_05DA) - backlight problem
I have fixed the backlight broken on this TV.
The problem was the crappy connectors that connect the led strip pairs together.
Solution:
I have soldered solid copper wire jumpers between the pairs of led strips. Only one connection was faulty but I put copper jumper wires between all of the led strip pairs, on both the positive and negative connections.
FYI:
The voltage on the LED tester (after the repair), when putting the probes on the IS and V_OUT test points...

Re: Toshiba 40l1333b (SSL400_05DA) - backlight problem
The negative side of the connection between the two led strips on the last row seems to be dead at present, so that will need fixing.
Is it worth replacing all of the links between the led strips on all the rows with wire or rigid metal jumpers?...

Re: Toshiba 40l1333b (SSL400_05DA) - backlight problem
I have tested all 5 of the rows of led strips (each row is a pair of strips). The positive probe of the tester was on positive testpoint on the first strip of the last row of leds and the negative probe was on the IS testpoint on the SSL400_05DA. The voltage on the tester was ~141 V. The test was done with the cable connected to CN001 on SSL400_05DA.
Individual rows are about 20-23 V per row. 2 rows have 2 strips of 4 leds and 3 rows have 1 strip of 5 and one strip of 4 leds....

Toshiba 40l1333b (SSL400_05DA) - backlight problem
I have a Toshiba 40l1333b with a backlight problem.
Problem:
The backlights don't light up.
Screen: Lta400hm23
LED Driver board: Ssl400 0d5a- Rev 1.0
Back light LED Strip connector board: SSL400_WP01 REV:0.0
Firstly I replaced the driver board, but that didn't fix the problem.
with the replacement driver board connected, I tested the led strips with an LED tester and all the leds light up.
I tested the leds using test points VOUT and IS (which are on the led driver board).
Also i have...

Re: What's this SMD component?
The blown IC is a AD8544 op-amp.
I can't see a bad solder joint where you marked BAD SOLDER JOINTS, I think the two prongs are a shunt....
