Hello, I'm a new user here on badcaps and although I am not as experienced yet, I'm happy to learn much more about computers than I know now.
So I recently bought a ThinkPad E495 from the used market and the laptop was working just fine. But I quickly noticed that the BIOS had a supervisor-password enabled.
When I asked the seller, if he could tell me the password, he said that he unfortunately forgot.
After trying to leave out any source of power to the computer, including the CMOS-battery for a few hours, as it was recommended to try first (which didnt work), I then decided to locate the BIOS-chip (winbond 25Q128FWSQ, of which I have a link to the datasheet attached) and carefully short the 5th and 6th pin with a screwdriver, a method I have seen several times before. I tried it three times, of which the first two tries didn't do anything and the laptop just continued to boot and load in to the OS unfazed. I suppose that the timing wasn't right, because I have read that this is very important when doing this method. The third time I tried it, the screen just went black and the laptop became completely unresponsive. Everytime I turn it on, the powerbutton lights up and the Caps-Lock-Light also stays on (even when you press down). The CPU heats up for a few minutes and the fan turns on, the CPU cools down and the fan goes off again. This just repeats itself over and over again. I have also tried removing the RAM, expecting the beeping sound that warns you because of the lacking RAM-Memory during boot, but this was also not happening. I went on to research a bit more about this issue and found the method of flashing the BIOS-chip with a CH341A-Programmer. I bought one, which had a 1.8V-adapter included, and began to read out the chip. I backed-up this existing data and erased the chip. I then found the necessary .bin files in this Forum. I also managed to extract the .bin file from the CD-ISO that Lenovo provides in their BIOS-Update section for my E495 on their website. I tried to write these .bin files on the chip many times, always checking the connection to the chip with the verification feature on ASProgrammer, but sadly the behavior of the laptop doesn't seem to change at all. I also checked the voltage on the 25Q128FWSQ with a multimeter (black on ground pin 4 and red on VCC pin 8) and it receives exactly 1.8V. I can't really imagine the chip or the regulator being fried although I can't say for sure.

At this point, I am not quite sure how I should continue and what to do/try next.

can't find it, then make a new thread..

post the bios here on the site, not on other sites..

post the contents of the bios chip even if it is corrupted..
