Lenovo Ideapad y700-15isk model 80NV0026US bricked stuck in boot loop

    Hello,

I have no background in Electronics. Just very basic knowledge building simple clone PCs alongside my brother during our teenage years (needed a computer at home, but it had to be a compromise between feature richness/hardware capabilities and cost).

My educational background is Mechanics of Materials & Mechanical Engineering.

Joining the community in search for help to solve a BIOS boot loop hazard I've gotten myself into after a BIOS update went wrong:

    MB: Vendor HSB, BY511 NM-A541

Currently the MB tries to start and it powers up right after I branch the AC adapter. The power LED goes on for about 5 secs then shuts off for about 25 secs, then this same cycle starts repeating.

Downloaded the dump shared in this thread of the forum https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ht=lenovo+y700 and then cleaned/swapped the ME region of .bin file with the matching one found in the INTEL CSME repositories using Intel Flash Image Tool and then again also using UEFItool. Tried and flashed them with SIP programmer and in both cases no luck.

Did also the same thing with a stock image extracted from a .exe and no luck as well.

Tried to just replace the NVRAM volume from my dump (which is corrupted) with the one from the file in the thread. No luck either.

Every time after I flash a .bin to the eeprom (using SIP programmer: reads and writes are successful and verify to be identical every time) I test and branch the MB to power with just the RAM on and nothing else: no HDD, KB, Display,.... Don't even put the CMOS battery back.

I have 2 16GB RAM DIMMS on. 32GB is the max the MB can handle according to the OEM. Don't know if trying to load from this state with this much could be a problem (PLEASE ADVISE).

[PLEASE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF MY TESTING PROCEDURE IS CORRECT, since I'm assuming it'd stay on for more than just 5 secs while it tries to search for a bootable device to which hand the control over.]

I did do one test after one of my flashes with the HDD branched and another one with a bootable USB stick, just to see if not finding a bootable device was, for some reason, making it power off.

Same result every time no matter what.

I have absolutely no experience with BIOS patching/stitching/modding and would like for you to check the .bin files i've been trying and determine if they're good and should work.

Cause in that case i'll know this isn't the cause, or the only cause, for the problem.

Would you please, please, please help me ? Please ?

Re: Lenovo Ideapad y700-15isk model 80NV0026US bricked stuck in boot loop

      Hi !

Thank you very much for replying and please excuse me for my delayed reply. I hadn't been able to get back to this during the past few days.

Before going on I'd like to give an "update" on my latest observations in case this could help the community to help me:

      1. I flashed the dump from someone else, (who had the same MB as I do but with a system comprising a Touch-enabled LCD screen), found in a thread from this forum which I referenced in post #1. The looping stopped but the computer didn't continue to boot the OS, which I guess isn't surprising since I didn't flash a clean BIOS or a rebuilt one with my MB's Serial Numbers in it (I really hope that's the reason).

      2. My screen's cable is damaged at the moment (waiting on the replacement) and apparently the firmware isn't able to drive the HDMI output (this MB only has HDMI peripheral port) so I couldn't see if any messages were being posted. I was using an external keyboard over USB-2.0 but cannot tell if it was detected since I couldn't see anything.

      3. The HDD would be gently turned off after 30secs or so. The fans would spin for about 1sec and then go straight off, but the MB would stay ON without looping until I turned it off.

Find attached the dump I did . You'll be able to see the obviously corrupted NVRAM volume (as far as I can tell), but I couldn't tell if any other one is damaged cause they seemed fine to my inexperienced eyes.

      Regards,

        (PS:

        Sorry,

Forgot to mention that the BIOS version I had working before the issue was the CDCN54WW, which is hence the one the dump contains. The CDCN35WW is the one who precedes it and is the one found in the three files on post #1 ).

Samsung un82ru88000f - Boot loop sort of but can correct with taping of LVDS ribbon
          by NolesFan
Hello all... TV started boot looping. Opened the back panel and tried to isolate the problem. Just PSB no boot loop. PSB and MB no boot loop. Plug in the LVDS from panel to MB and boot looping starts up. It doesnt matter of order that I plug the LVDS ribbons back in, only 1 and no boot loop but as soon as 2nd one plugs in boot looping. I then noticed a flicker on the screen when I was closing the clip on the harness to the LVDS. Shut the lights off so I can see better, and I noticed as i slowly close it, I will get a picture, but as soon as it clips in, I lose picture and booting happens. So I...

Yet another Samsung QLED Boot Loop
          by Takeatry
Samsung QLED QN50Q — purchased 2022 started experiencing a delay in the picture coming on in the morning less than 2 years later. Did not know the term boot loop at that time. As the loop delay ran into a few minutes did all the recommended troubleshooting, soft and hard reset, changing cables and outlet locations, no help. As the delay increased contacted Samsung tech group and allow them remote access the tv. Tech was moving too fast to see exactly what he was doing but this ultimately it was also no help. Lived with the delay until it stretched out over 6 hours. Pulled of off the back cover...

Hisense 60R6E - No backlight - stuck in boot loop
          by Mschrenkz@gmail.com
I joined hoping I'll be able to verify which component I need to replace on my Hisense 60R6E. When I plug it in the red light comes on and stays on for several seconds then blinks off and then on again. There is no back light but I can see the logo screen "Hisense Roku" (using the flashlight method) come on while the red light is off. Then it dissapears and the red light is constant again. This cycle keeps repeating. I tried pressing the reset button and it has absolutely no impact. Even held it in for 30 seconds also tried holding the power button in with the TV unplugged - nothing...

Samsung UE49MU6105K - boot loop, horizontal lines
          by blaster_
Less than a year out of warranty, samsung UE49MU6105K craps out, they've got this designed obsolescence down to an exact science of self destruct when out of warranty...

Screen started to show horizontal lines and ghosted image at the bottom, then turned off by itself. Did software update, to no avail of the line problem, and got a boot loop after some minutes of watching TV. This boot loop will turn on the backlights for some seconds the sound comes on, the image will turn dark very fast and then it reboots again. Pressing power button will not put it on standby. Disconnecting...
