Help with HP Z Book bios. Keep bricking laptops

So I came upon a stack of G1 and G2 HP Zbook laptops. All have the bios locked so for fun I wanted to try and reprogram and rebuild some of these laptops.

    I got a Ch341 Black programmer, and a Soic 8 clip

I read on a bunch of forums that I should be able to read and rewrite to the chips without desoldering them. But I also am seeing conflicting information about it working or not.
Also after bricking 2 machines I learned about the serial number information that needs to be retained in the BIOS and using posted BIOS even for the same model wouldn't work.

Even more I bricked another laptop before finding out that these Winbond chips dont all read/write the same based on which software you're using with the CH341.

So I got what I thought was everything sorted out. Correct software, learned how to take multiple reads and used a CRC checker to ensure consistency between reads. Should be good to go right? So I take a functioning laptop, do the reads, verify, then erase the BIOS chip, then write the read right back onto the chip and the laptop is bricked.

I get no errors on the write process. The laptop powers on, but I get the HP 5 blinks on the cap/num lights which means BIOS not found.

I'm also surprised Sure Start doesn't kick in and at least let me recovery the original BIOS

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

5 blinking error means system error. You can clean me region of your original dump or place it in bios section ask somebody to clean me region your dump. Try this probably will this be the fix.

Sure that would help with my initial issue of resetting the BIOS but I still dont get why writing my back up read would brick the laptop?

        🛠️ MSI GP75 Leopard MS-17E71 – No Display, Deep BIOS/EC Troubleshooting
        by macabook
        Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a dead MSI GP75 Leopard (MS-17E71) motherboard (i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU) with a no display/no backlight issue initially. After extensive investigation, I’m at a critical stage involving EC firmware, BIOS/ME region interaction, and possible deep corruption. I'm seeking advanced insight from anyone with experience in EC/BIOS sync issues or PCH-level behavior. Here’s a full breakdown:
        🧩 Initial Issue
        • Board powers on (fans spin, keyboard lights up and can be adjusted, caps lock led lights), but no display or backlight
        • External display (HDMI) shows

novice user attempting first BIOS write on ASUS laptop
        by alphabetty
        Hello first post!

Ok so after an (ASUSTek) optional Windows update, my old ASUS E403NA laptop rebooted and froze in the BIOS menu screen and was unresponsive so after about 30 mins I powered off and back on again. Now i just get a power LED and a black screen, I have tried all the basic suggestions and all the suggestions on the ASUS site, spoke to ASUS support who said I will need to pay for an RMA.

The laptop is worth €50 so I won't be doing the RMA at god knows what price.

So I have seen some videos where people have reprogrammed the BIOS...

        ASUS TP500LA BIOS request/repair/merge?
        by jbonavita
Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
        Some issues
        A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

        Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...

Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 (serial number: MP2BFZEF) bios request
        by Wahaz
        Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....
