Not sure what the go is with this one. I had left it doing final Windows 11 updates, when I came back to it later had high fan spin and forcibly turned it off with power button. Not sure if this was a bad Windows F/W update or not. Now all I get is 7 orange blinks on the battery light when the power is applied either via barrel adaptor or USB-C. This doesn't seem to line up with anything in the manual. AFAIK, it was already on V1.31 BIOS which is supposed to be the latest.

One other weird thing is it is flattening the BIOS battery after I just have replaced it but I think that is a side issue. Attached are the dumps for BIOS (U365) and EC (U366). S:N is 5CG8100CT2. BIOS looks ok in UEFI tool.

Edit. Was checking the CMOS battery issue and found 12 ohms on P3V3_RTC and only .75V present. Usually I find these issues to be PCH related but there quite a few things on this rail.

Edit 2: Bloody cap! I put 3V onto that rail and it finally went full short. Was C4766 (1uF 0201) just on the other side of the board from the CMOS battery connector. Now it starts up.

Thanks Flea. I had modified U366 with another dump prior to finding the leaky cap (thinking it was an EC update failure). Once the cap was replaced, the laptop booted up, however reported an Endpoint Security failure. I did try a downgrade to V1.30 to reflash but it bricked the machine. Restoring both my original dumps resolved that so messing with the EC bios you will get this problem.

The primary fault was the leaky cap on P3V3_RTC pulling it down to 0.75V. It measured 12 ohms initially, but went full short when I injected 3V onto it.

Core voltages were missing, I found rotten trace from VRM controller, repaired it and the laptop sprung back to life. The 5 blinks before booting persisted. I blame the content of Winbond flash as soldering on legs was visible and the content might be wrong. The correct serial number showed in BIOS, so I tried to do a BIOS update. The BIOS version was Q78 v01.07.00. It didn't accept newest update, so I tried the closest one to the old. I found v01.09.00. Content of the update was succesfully copied (progress bar finished), then error notification about the USB-C controller firmware being the same version as in the update file (which is fine), then reboot and infinite black screen with 5 blinks and fans on full speed. I tried various recovery procedures, none works. The laptop has the Sure Start feature.

I uploaded current content of W25Q256JV flash memory.
The serial number of laptop is 5CG9034328.

Any help is appreciated.

There's no special setup needed for XGecu. Just follow the usual process: Erase → Write → Verify
If the verification passes, the chip was written successfully. If not, try lowering the SPI clock frequency
That said, try flashing both the U365 and U366 chips with the files provided by SMDFlea (Post #'49)

Hi again! Thanks a lot for all your help, mate!!

I finally managed to “solve” the issue I was having. It turned out that it wasn’t related to the BIOS programming after all. With a bit of patience and the help of a microscope, I realized that a tiny resistor next to the BIOS chip had moved slightly and was no longer making proper contact. I repaired it, and the laptop came back to life.

I’m still getting the security device errors, though, so I’m going to create a new post and upload the dumps from both chips, as I believe the EC may be the one causing these errors.

I still don’t have enough knowledge or experience to create my own clean BIOS binaries from the original vendor files, but I’m trying to learn. I have all the tools I need… just not the knowledge yet! 😅

Any recommendations or guidance would be more than welcome. It’s a bit confusing when you’re just starting out and trying to figure out the correct process, what the first step should be, then the second, and so on. I’d really like to understand the proper workflow rather than just relying on BIOS files that other people have already cleaned or repaired. I also don’t want to keep bothering people every time I run into this kind of issue, so I’d really like to learn how to handle these things properly myself.

I'm glad you were able to figure it out and sort the issue yourself. Yes, this can happen when using a hot air gun (the airflow can accidentally move or knock off small resistors or other components in the soldering area) You'll get more familiar with the process over time. I recommend watching some YouTube videos for soldering tips and techniques, but practice is the key to improving

Also, regarding your request and since I actually never copy anyone else's files. I always create my own from scratch, even when helping dozens of users. I see you already posted your BIOS and EC files. I'll check your latest post and try to guide you through the process or point you to a thread that explains the procedure. See you there!
