HP Pavilion G7-1135sd bios update went wrong

Ok, so I have this laptop and the leds on the caps lock and num lock button keeps flashing 2 times on power on.
So it means a problem with the bios.

What options do I have now ??There is no hard drive in the laptop (so no OS)

I have read that I can try to solder out the bios chip(s) and then reprogram it with the correct bios.I have the USB CH341A programmer and another a bit older type.

As now I think that the bios firmware is corrupted.

    Any ideas ??

I must add to this that I already have tried the HP recommendation , with the Windows & B button (and then Esc if IIRC)

But that didn't work.So now it is down to use a dump Main Bios file , for this model type ?

Do I also need the EC bios (if this laptop has it ?)

    Any advice ??

      First try resetting Bios.
Desoldering the Bios chip is the easiest way for reprogramming. Please mention the mainboard model to find an appropriate Bios dump for this mainboard. Is it the R12 mainboard?

        caspian ,

Thank you for your reply.I have not dismantled the MBoard from the housing yet.
Will do that in the coming days. Then I will note the MB number/make and Rev.

If I have the Main bios chip in the programmer , how do I reset the bios then ??I will say what bios chips are on the MB.

Of course I will make a back up of the old ( maybe corrupted) bios. From the 2 bios chips if it has 2 bios chips.

resetting Bios must be done before desoldering it from the mainboard.
Some mainboards have specific mechanisms to recover Bios from Bios damages. But I do not know whether this mainboard has it or not.

So is there anyone who has a bit more ideas about this ??I will take the MB out in the coming days.

But just want to know if I should order some new bios chips or if I can still use the old one.

That said , should I look for a dumped bios from this model laptop , or can I use a dumped bios from this G7 series ??
            So from a 1000 - 1200 etc series ??

Like I said the HP tip with the Windows + B button did not work.

            Any tips will be welcome.

Make a backup of your old bios first and post it here. The bios has DMI info ,make ,model,UUID that needs transfering from your bios backup to the bios from the hp website before you flash it. To flash the EC you need a special programmer. Heres some hp DMI tools: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=69204

                Hi SMDFlea ,

Thank you for the information.Obviously this is/will be my first try to do something in/with the bios - reflashing or re-programming.

These programms that you have referred to me , are they just for use in/with programming the EC chip ??

Or can I use these also for the main bios chip ?

I understand that when I post the Original (probably corrupted bios firmware) here , someone can/may modify it.
                With the correct information ??

And is it necessary to also re-programm the EC chip ?

"These programms that you have referred to me , are they just for use in/with programming the EC chip ??"

The DMI tools are used to store the laptop serial number and other info. You can also use a hex editor to copy the DMI info from the bios backup to the new bios.

"I understand that when I post the Original (probably corrupted bios firmware) here , someone can/may modify it.With the correct information ??"

                  Yes .

"And is it necessary to also re-programm the EC chip ?"

No ,unless its corrupt and needs programming,or its faulty/burned/corroded.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2523nd - Dimm2 slot disabled after corrupt bios repair? Advice requested.
                      by Bloodhoundje
                      Hi everyone,

I have been doing hardware repair as a hobby for some years now and recently decided to learn about repairing laptops as a fun challenge.

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.

After initial testing I concluded the bios seems to be corrupted since all voltages are normal and there are no shorts. HP has a feature for a bios restore from USB with winkey+B for this model. This did not work.

I have desoldered the bios chip (GigaDevice...

                      🛠️ MSI GP75 Leopard MS-17E71 – No Display, Deep BIOS/EC Troubleshooting
                      by macabook
                      Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a dead MSI GP75 Leopard (MS-17E71) motherboard (i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU) with a no display/no backlight issue initially. After extensive investigation, I’m at a critical stage involving EC firmware, BIOS/ME region interaction, and possible deep corruption. I'm seeking advanced insight from anyone with experience in EC/BIOS sync issues or PCH-level behavior. Here’s a full breakdown:
                      🧩 Initial Issue
                      • Board powers on (fans spin, keyboard lights up and can be adjusted, caps lock led lights), but no display or backlight
                      • External display (HDMI) shows
                      ...

[Problem/ Request] Bricked TongFang GK7MRFR BIOS
                      by cr4zychriss
                      Hello everyone,
I am requesting urgent assistance to unbrick my laptop, a rebranded TongFang GK7MRFR chassis. The laptop is completely dead following a faulty in-OS EC flash attempt.
I have successfully used a CH341A programmer and can read/write/verify both flash chips, but using my backups/extractions has failed to restore power. The root cause is likely a corrupted Intel Management Engine (ME) region or an incompatible EC/BIOS pairing. System & Hardware Details

Need BIOS for HP Pavilion 15-n058sr recovery - Caps Lock blinking twice
                      by sssssssssssssss
                      Hello everyone,

I'm dealing with a classic BIOS corruption issue on an HP Pavilion 15-n058sr and hoping someone here might have the original BIOS file or point me in the right direction.

                      Symptoms:
                      • Laptop powers on but no display at all (completely black screen)
                      • Caps Lock blinks twice with a pause, then repeats continuously
                      • F12 LED stays on permanently
                      • No POST, no boot sequence, nothing on screen

Based on HP diagnostic codes, the 2-blink Caps Lock pattern indicates BIOS corruption/failure.

                      What I've tried:
                      • Hardware reset (battery removal, power
                      ...

Asus Chromebox CN62 - wrong chip put on BIOS reader
                      by BMCappelletti
                      Long story short:
                      - dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
                      - gave the computer to his son a couple years later
                      - son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
                      - too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)

He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8...
