ASUS X54H (K54L_HDMI R3.0), "Initialise..." and stops

ASUS X54H laptop with K54L_HDMI R3.0 board. Had a bad DC jack, replaced, but now it's showing me the following blue screen before shutting down about 0.5 seconds after.

If I try without the battery it'll make a note that updating the flash requires a battery with at least 20% charge on the same screen.

Any ideas? Do I need a new bios?

I thought that perhaps myself, except that the client isn't the sort that would ever do that sort of thing (general user). Very strange.

I'll try get a replacement BIOS and see if that fixes it.

Unfortunately the machine now just turns on, no display, no backlight/energize, and the fan runs at 100%

There is some USB stick activity for a short time.

UPDATE:

It booted fine, rebooted again okay, I then shut down the system and now it's come back again with the blue-screen as the original-post.

Suggestions? Perhaps faulty BIOS chip... or maybe some broken program trying to run on Windows?

you should reinstall the OS to see what will happen. If it was not solved, you can do a number of tests.

I have a membership on bios-downloads and can give you a few more BIOS files to try. If it keeps failing, you have a PCH issue which is killing the BIOS, seen it several times. If the BIOS goes bad again, reflow PCH, this should fix it. If not, you will need to replace the PCH.

I was just looking at the PCH because I was seeing on the Boardview that a lot of the lines were going right back to it. I'll check them for issues but beyond that if it's the PCH then I'll likely write the system off.

SUMMARY -

Happy to report everything is fixed now, but it wasn't in the end a bad BIOS chip or virus or OS problem.

There was liquid damage in the on/off button of the laptop, causing the machine to glitch off (and the DC Jack was also messed up too) but the kicker was that some liquid must have gotten in to the keyboard and was causing it to start in bios-flash mode
but combined with the rapid turnoff from the messed up on/off button assembly made it look like it was a dead BIOS; and because this would only happen when I had reassembled the machine the first couple of times I started to think that it was something like a CIH virus in the Windows.

So there you have it, a compound issue; DC Jack messed up combined with liquid damage in the on/off switch and keyboard.

And no matter how much you learn, there's always a new curveball to be thrown at you.

On the upside, I worked out how to do bios flashing using a Raspberry Pi rather than dedicated programmer, easier in many ways.
